Could you pray?
Randall,
You might refer this family for counseling. It could be this child has some mental health issues that may not be properly addressed, or if it is anger---then he and his family could benefit from working on the source of the anger as well as appropriate coping skills. There are other options than immediately placing him in the foster care system....His mother could file a CHINS (Child in Need of Supervision) Petition at the local juvenile court. This will get the "courts" involved and they serve to assist the parent by putting some "teeth" in the plan of discipline. Here in Montgomery the court requires a letter from a therapist, etc (unless it is an unusual situation). Then the child has a juvenile court probation officer to be accountable to----not to bully the child, but most end up building relationships with the family and they have access to referral sources. Think of it as a last chance option before being fully placed "into the system." The family may not be aware of such referral sources. If the parent is closed to the idea of continuing the journey with her son, then she may sign a boarding home agreement with DHR. Hope this helps, I'll be praying for this family!
