Need Ideas

I need some advice from all of you. I am in the process of renovating my kitchen with all new cabinets and replacing some of my appliances. I am keeping my microhood and refrigerator and everthing else will be new. Now what I need ideas for is what is it you can't live without in your kitchen. I will be putting in the pullout shelves in the bottom cabinets  and a lazy susan in my one corner. On the top will be a corner cabinet that is going to be more user friendly. What else can I add to my cabinets to help maximize space. I have an island but will be repainting it black and add a new counter top. I also need ideas on what color of paint, glaze or stain to do my perimeter cabinets in. Help me ladies as I am no decorator.

You got it girlfriend. I am having my old ones taken down instead of torn down. You can come and spend the weekend with me and take what you want. I will give you a call later.

My cabinets aren't user friendly at all but I'm working on it, slow but sure. Maybe Brenda Abernathy could give you some hints, she has the most user friendly kitchen I;ve ever been in,
I have installed spice racks inside kitchen doors so I can see my spices at a glance and keep them all together. Also lid racks inside the doors. I fixed one cabuinet with slots to hold cookie sheets and baking pans. Takes up less room, can get to without unstacking and restacking. I dearly love that. Since I have so many cookbooks(around 300) I'm taking two bookshelves, 36 inches tall and putting them back to back(well staggers about half way over and screwing them together and putting them on wheels. Then I'm putting countertop on and I've got bar stools that will fit under the countertopThe stools will fit under each side of the counter and I'll have plenty of room for the cookbooks in the shelves Since it's on wheels it can be left in the center of the floor when needed ot pushed to the side when not. I don't know why I collect cookbooks I sure don't do much cooking.
Goof luck on your remodeling project. Love, Miss Mary

Miss Mary, I love your idea for you cook books! if I had enough room, I would want to do something like that. I don't have near as many cookbooks as you, so for right now, I just have them on the bottom shelf of my baker's rack.

Thank you Miss Mary you have gave me some ideas that I think that I will see about having done. For now I think I will pass on asking Brenda A for any hints. I just went ahead and hired some one to redesign the kitchen for me.

Louise,

I think the favorite part of my kitchen is the spice drawer.  It is about the same size as a silverware drawer and has three angled areas for spices.  There is also a little room in the back for the short spice containers.  My husband is the cook in the family and loves spices so he also built a spice rack on the wall behind the door in our pantry.  It is 4 feet high, 2 1/2 feet wide and 4 inches deep with slats in front to hold the spices.  There are five shelves and  top shelf is open for large containers.

Thanks Allyson I like the spice drawer idea. I will have that one for sure. I am getting overwhelmed with all this mess. I have 2 more cabinets makers to talk with Monday. Then I have to make a choice of who I want.
