Visiting beauty shop tomorrow morning for new look... Anyone out there had RNY and had a perm or hair colored after 3 to 4 months out from surgery....?

Don't perm it!! I used to keep my hair in a curl perm all the time!! 3 months after my RNY I permed it again..and it was a disaster!! The perm burned my hair terribly and it thinned even more!! My hair was ( and is very fine and thin). I had to cut it pretty short!! I didn't go to a new hairdresser either! My niece has been doing my hair for years!! Anyhow, a color might be ok..I color mine. Ut is longer now than I have had it in years and I love it. It is growing and healthier than it has been in years. NO MORE PERMS for me!! Listen to your stylist!!

A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything.

I didn't perm...but yep gotta keep that color on it or I really look old LOL.  It really didn't bother my hair.  I think my hairdresser uses Paul Mitchell if that makes any difference.  It probably doesn't.

I havent permed my hair in many years.  I did (and still do) color my hair and havent had any problems.  I did loose a lot of hair during my first post-op year, but it did come back.

Don't get a perm. I did and I was kinky for a year!!! Lost a lot of hair mine is still thin but growing back out, just had my hair cut again and it is looking better. Coloring your hair should be ok. Love Ellen

I have quit coloring and perming my hair.  My hairdresser says my friends are laughing, but I don't care!!! Allyson

I have gotten my hair colored a few time since I had my surgery almost four months ago.  It seems to give it a little more body.  You may also want to talk to your hairdresser about how she can adapt your cut/style to make it appear to have more body.  Mine added layers and it helped somewhat.

Take Care!

Hey girl!  I haven't permed my hair in years...but I have colored it and did fine.  In fact it helped add some volume while I was thinning so bad in the early months.  I did end up cutting it very short..but that was due to the new hair growth.  It was coming back in curly and I couldn't do anything with it.  I was kinda unsure about it at first...but I LOVE it now.  It's so easy to take care of.
