Hi Everyone, i went for all  my pre testing on Tuesday and had an awful encounter with the antheislogist it seems as if my bp has decieded to go hay wire. I have never had a problem with my bp even though I'm over weight. the pa at the surgeon's offce told me not to worry and sent me back to My primary care doctor for a low dose medicine to get me throught the surgery which hopefully will be Wednesday. My diet for this week is  Soup Salads and sandwiches and I'm already sick of it since I don't really care for Deli meat. I had a PBJ fror breakfast . This really worries me if i'm struggling staying with this how am I going to Monday and Tuesday liguids only and the big question will I make it once I'm banded.

It's not uncommon to doubt yourself.  After all, how many "diets" have you failed up to now?  You do need to work extra hard on your pre-op diet because it's important to shrink your liver in order to make your surgery safer.  Having said all that, I wasn't perfect on my pre-op diet.  The best advise I can give you is stock up on all the stuff that you CAN have and always have someone on hand that is allowable to eat.  I still have to do this even after my surgery.  The best advise I got was to stay prepared foodwise.  Always have a plan and have something handy to eat/drink so you don't get caught without and make a bad decision.  I have a drawer that I keep protein bars in and I keep plenty of protein drinks in the fridge here at work and at home (amazingly...someone at work is actually taking my protein drinks....can't imagine why? LOL).  Just remember, you CAN do this.  After surgery it will be easier because you won't tend to get as hungry as you do now.  And it gets easier with time even as  you are able to add more foods back into your diet.  Since you are getting banded, you won't be as limited as those with the Bypass.  Just do your personal best, that's all anyone can ask. Sandi

First, I'll keep you in my prayers that your blood pressure stabalizes and your surgery takes place without any problems.  Second, TWO days of liquid diet is a cinch!  I did 2 1/2 weeks pre-op.  I'm not going to say I was perfect, I did cheat, chewed 3 green beans and spit them out, chewed 6 Cheerios and spit them out.  My advice is "KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE"!   Debbie

Whoaaaaaaaaaa... pull that anxiety horse back in the stable!  I know EXACTLY how you feel because this time last year, I was on a similar pony!!! Heck, may even be the same horse!! The blood pressure sounds like it is under the careful observation of your docs.  I know I caused my otherwise normal blood pressure to raise a little when I got excited or worried/stressed about the upcoming surgery. Keep it calm!  Since you are about to give that body a makeover, take time to give your mind and soul a little uplift too. Things that helped me the week before the surgery... 1) Visualized the new me  2) Cleaned my house/got things in order 3) Called up family and old friends-asked them to say a prayer 4) Rented a couple of funny movies to make me laugh 5) Wrote a letter to my "fat self" to remind it why I was dumping it and 6) Made a list of the things I wanted to do when my fat self left town for good.  Some of these things are on my OH page. As far as food goes, you will be surprised how motivated you are once you write that letter and make that list.  Even broth sounds good when you think about the end result.    Good luck my friend! If the urge to sway from the liq. diet hits, slap it down with some Crystal Lite in a good flavor or treat yourself to a smoothie.  You are not in this alone. Come on board and you chat it among your friends here!  Once you have your lapband in place and feel like it, please let us know your progress and if you have prayer requests or just need a good laugh. Nanci ps- Another thing you can visualize...(for me, BamaBob, and a few others) think of a green field with very large strong men in Crimson jerseys running across. Think of a score board with Bama leading by 8 touchdowns. Think of a National Championship.  Okay, okay, so this may not be weight related...but I'm really trying to get pepped up for a new football season!

Nothing tastes as good as being thinner feels.

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

Of course you will make it!!  The last week pre-surgery is the hardest; we all can attest to that.  Tho I am not a bander, we do share the same terrific surgeon!   Don't stress about the BP - it's probably stress that caused it to go haywire.  Here are some suggestions for food: *Don't feel bad if you don't stick entirely to the SSS menu this week - however, it is totally necessary that you stay on liquids only Monday & Tuesday.  Try picking up some soup from your local chinese restaurant.  It tastes MUCH better than anything canned, and even when you go on clear liquids next week, you can strain it w/some cheesecloth.  (That also works well if you are on liquids only post surgery.)   *Keep SF popsicles on hand - I bet I ate dozens of them!   *Also try protein drinks - they help fill you up and keep you from feeling so starved.  Either SlimFast or Atkins EAS.  I even mixed the powder in my coffee as creamer.   You can do this - keep us posted!
