I had someone tell me yesterday that her Mom never had blood sugar issues until after she had gastric bypass surgery.  I thought surgery usually took care of blood sugar issues instead of causing them.  Did you have trouble before? Allyson

I can sympathize with you!!  I've had issues with low blood sugar for the past few months, esp after I eat a baked potato!  I usually eat a spoonful of peanut butter and that takes care of it.  The lightheadedness comes to me after I get "numb lips"...that's my sure sign that a low spell is coming on.  Last time I had one, my BS level was 54, it's been as low as 49.   My dad is a diabetic and often experiences low BS, so low that we've had to call the EMTs a number of times.  They always tell him to drink something, usually milk with a tablespoonful of sugar mixed in (YUKKKK).  Anyway, they said that if you can drink something, OJ or milk, etc., it gets into your bloodstream faster. Take care !

Becky, I had low blood sugar before surgery. I have problems with mine dropping all the time. It's worse if I have something else going on, like lately I have been sick with bronchitus. I don't know why it is worse then. I asked Dr. Dewitt about it & he said I shouldn't have problems if I eat ONLY protein, all the time. I know that is what I am supposed to do, but it's hard. When mine gets too low, I usually try to drink about 4 ounces of some kind of juice. If I cannot get that, I'll try for some peanut butter crackers or some cheese.  My husband has gotten really good at noticing when it's comming on, I don't usually tune in to it till it's really low. I think that is pretty normal. I hope you get to feeling better.

i'm so sorry you're suffering with this too, becky.  i've had low blood sugar ever since my wls.  there have been many times i've stood up and almost fainted-scares the crap out of my DH, lol.  i eat 3-4 bites of fruit at each meal and usually a banana & tbsp of pb or 1/2 apple & 1 tbsp pb mid-afternoon.  it really does help.  i wish i had more suggestions and i hope you feel better soon. Hugs, Donya
