Interesting!  I've had chicken stew with dumplings, beef stew with dumplings, and even blackberries with dumplings, but never heard of kraut and dumplings.  My mom always cooked kraut with hot dogs or pork chops and of couse mashed taters. Debbie

With the potatoes and dumplins....you just boil potatoes in lots of water.....add salt and pepper and a tad of butter and pinch refrigerator biscuits into the boiling water....in another pot I opened to  cans of kraut and sliced up weiners.  It's just something my Mama always used to do and my girls still love it and Daddy doesn't make it for himself, so he came over to eat too.    It's really good!!!  Just a treat for every now and then.  I used healthy choice weiners....

Most of my friends have never heard of potato dumplings either...they always say, "you mean chicken dumplings?" and I tell them potato dumplings are when you can't afford any chicken, LOL.  Personally, I'd rather have them than chicken.  (Cracker Barrell has "dumplings" on their menu, they're OK, but not as good as homemade!!)  My mom always used to make them when we were sick with a virus, and still, to this day, if I get sick, she'll say, "Do you want me to make some dumplins?"  My husband thinks we're crazy since they don't have any meat in them!! FYI...instead of biscuits, you can also use tortillas, just cut them in strips and drop them in.  It's hard to tell the difference.
