Hi all.  I injured my back last week.  I went to my doc and she prescribed several things.  She asked me about NSAID's and I told her that my surgeon had said no about them.  She gave me these patches that are applied topically and said to give them a try that since they don't go through the GI system (stomach) that I should be safe.   I haven't used them because I know that some of the medicine could be absorbed into my GI system.  I am a little leary.  Has anyone here used these or anything similar?  What was the response?  My back is killing me and I am tempted to try these but I sure don't want any GI symptoms.  The nurse in me is saying don't chance it but then again i also know that less will be absorbed through my GI system.  What do you guys think?   Beth

Well, I'm no doctor, but I would think she may be right.  It seems to me that NSAIDS being taken orally are then sitting in your GI tract and that's where the problem is.  But that's just me thinking as logically as a lay-person (nonmedical) can think.  I hope you get to feeling better soon.  I know your back has been giving you trouble for some time.

Hey Beth. I to had my back to go out last week, have never ever had any back problems before this. Anyways went to the urgent care and had x rays and nothing wrong. He also tried to give  me NSAIDS and I said no. He did give me a injection  of Toradol, I was thinking that it would be okay, but I had severe epigastric pain for 2 days. The Toradol was the only thing that I could say had caused it. I was told that we could do an injection, but for me never again. The thing that I found that helped me the most was taking some percogesic that I got over the counter. Stuff that is not supposed to hurt our stomach now causes me great discomfort. Try the percogesic first and see if that would help. Hope that it gets better.

Haven't tried Percogesic for back pain, but it is an AWESOME painkiller - sometimes, it's the only thing that will take care of my headache!
