Research your doctor!!!!!!

I think that it is a very important time to remind ever one that is considering surgery to research your doctor. Find out all you can about him or her. Ask how many surgeries they have done, about the mortality rate, any complications. Talk with people in your community that may have used the doctor or might have some first hand knowledge about them. Please, Please, Please do this for you and your family. You may not get another chance to. I just feel compelled to post this morning. Without going into any details or posting any names I heard a sad story yesterday and happened to have known the family. Sadly to say the person will never get a chance to do any research. This was not even WLS related. But if it can help someone else down the road it will be worth it.

Thanks Louise

EXCELLENT advice! I can honestly say I researched my surgeon, just as much as various WLS and I am extremely happy with both decisions. I would use my surgon for any problem I had, WLS related or not. I just think he is a wonderful and caring man who does care about his patients. I lost my sister in law to complications from a stroke caused by her WLS, she used a popular Bham surgeon, but he also advised her how dangerous it would be for her to have it with all her other conditions, which were serious and life threatning by themselves so I do not blame the surgeon or anyone else, it was just her time to go to her Heavenly Home, but she did live for 3 years afterwards and lost 150 pounds but died from complications of a stroke, at the age of 42. She also shared with me, the night before my WLS that even tho she had a stroke and was bed bound, she had no regrets and advised me to do exactly what my surgeon tells me to do and I have taken that advice to heart and done exactly as he had told me to do. Ive no complications whatsoever so far, do not anticipate any but we do not know what the future holds so i am just keeping optomistic and positive I will be just fine. GREAT ADVICE thpo, for those researching!

RNY- 4/4/05 - no complications - no regrets- never have dumped.

Sandy this was not WLS related that I heard about yesterday. I also love my surgeon and would use him for any and everthing. I will not say anymore due to the liability of the matter.
