Kidney infection
I would advise to call the nephrologist on call about the antibiotics. They get paid well, to be "on call" & I know you hate to bother them, on their day off. I feel the same way and I do it too but with your diagnosis that is the best option for you right now.
Are you on fluid restriction? If you do not like just plain water, pick up the South Beach Tropical Breeze water packets. This one is delicious, I could drink it all day long and they have it next to the SF Kool Aid, & Crystal Light & it has 3 grams protein per packet. Try to get in some cranberry juice, cran-apple, cran-grape, whatever you can tolerate but being in renal failure DO ask the doctor about fluid restrictions. Sending up a prayer, right now. feel better soon!

MEDICATIONS
Intravenous (IV) antibiotics may be used initially to control the bacterial infection if your infection is severe or you cannot take antibiotics by mouth. In acute cases of pyelonephritis, you may receive a 10- to 14-day course of antibiotics.
Chronic pyelonephritis may require long-term antibiotic therapy. It is imperative that you finish taking the entire course of prescribed antibiotics. Commonly used antibiotics include the following:
- Sulfa drugs such as sulfisoxazole/trimethoprim
- Amoxicillin
- Cephalosporins
- Levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin
Do you have any sulfa based antibiotics such as Bactrim, Bactrim DS or Septra? Those are typically first line for UTI's...but with you being in a research study, I would suggest before doing anything, that you contact them.
You need to be sure that whatever research program you are involved in will not be a contraindication to specific antibiotics or that the antibiotics will not react with the research drugs.
It is not worth taking chances....call your Doctor!
Hope you feel better VERY soon!

Carolyn~
(I did this myself last weekend and am still paying for it today.)
If you have a PCP or Nephrologist, I would most definately put a call in to them and speak with them or whomever is on call for them. With your already compromised kidney function, you should not wait around until Monday. If you can not get one of them,
just go to one of the urgent care, walk in clinics and have
them check you out. !!!
Now GET GOING!
