Much Better and Many Thanks!

I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and concern for the situation that I posted about yesterday.

In follow up---I went to sleep last night, having already packed a bag in anticipation of being admitted to the hospital early this moring. I slept well last night for the first time in several days and when I woke this morning
I was surprised by the changes in the appearance of my face. While it was still obviously swollen and had some areas of visible redness or cellulitis, It had improved more than I could imagine and I actually felt a bit better.

The left eye that had been swollen almost shut, was probably improved by 75% and the rest of the face was
almost equally improved.

SO--with anticipation, I went ahead and dressed as if to go to work and went straight for my 7:45 appointment with the Oral Surgeon. He came in the room and looked at me and shook his head---he said that he was "astonished" by the marked improvement overnight and felt that by adding the Augmentin 875 (5th) antibiotic, we finally had turned to corner and that he felt we were out of the woods with this. He told me that he felt I would be fine now without hospitalization and that I was to continue ALL the medications and to return to see him at 8:15 on Monday morning. My fever has been no more than 99.6 in the last 24 hours.

So...he sent me on my way with very clear instructions that should I have an increase in fever, pain, swelling or redness over weekend, I am to call his office immediately and that he will come to the office to see me 24 hours a day if needed. He said if I had any concerrns or became worried about anything, just to give him a call.

I feel much better about the situation and while I do still have some swelling, I would call it minimal and the surgeon feels that it is caused by the surgery that he did and not the infection at this point. My pain is minimal--I could probably totally stop the pain medication at this point but think I will take it over the weekend just to help keep me relaxed and to allow some extra time for healing. I am one of those people who have a very high pain tolerance and have to be careful not to injure/reinjure myself because of that tolerance. I was thinking today that I needed to quit taking so much pain medication and counted the pain pills left in my bottle....
The prescription was filled on TUESDAY and was for 20 Lortab 10's. There were still 15 in the bottle! Four days, five pills---NOT BAD really! I had been taking them 1/2 at a time, so I really had not taken that many.

Oh well..enough rambling...but I do want to thank you all again for your prayers and concern. It is all greatly appreciated!

I'm so glad that you are feeling a little better, and that you didn't have to be admitted to the hospital.  That's great, praise the Lord.   I will continue to pray for you as you heal over the weekend. Take Care, Angel

I am very happy for you!! I was wondering what was going on!!  Sounds like they just caught it in time!!!  BUT I tell ya, I have had pts who have been admitted with less swelling and redness than what you have described!!  I will keep praying for you!!!

Thanks Lucy...I am feeling better...still have a ways to go but definately seeing improvement now. Until yesterday, I was thinking it was about time for some more aggressive treatment, but wanting to allow the surgon and meds the time they needed.
There is still some swelling today (Saturday) but the red
cellulitis appearance is lessining considerably.
I really believe the residual swelling is probably from the surgical procedure to do the incision and drainage and
the surgeon thought to be the case as well.
I have been up, had my meds, gone for a haircut and am back in my bed to take it easy the rest of the day.
Thanks again for your concern and prayers.

Thanks Jackie! I am feeling some better...of couse the pain meds may have something to do with that. I really think that all the antibiotics are making me feel a little bit bad--but that I will just have to deal with. I am NOT going to miss a single dose of them! The are all on a 14 day regimen, so I have nine more days of them.....I can do it!

Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend. I am lying here in bed but have my blinds open and it looks like it may be getting ready to rain here. That would make for me some good sleep time, but I know everyone else is ready for a pretty, sunny weekend.

Take care!
