Dumping

I was doing some research on WLS today for an article and found out something that I didn't know about dumping.   You can still dump and not have the kind of symptoms that others talk about.  According to this article that I was reading, about 30% of the people with WLS say that they don't dump...but the truth is that all WLS patients do dump if they eat too many carbohydrates.  How some feel experience it is in atypical ways, the most common are those that are like low blood sugar or being hungary.  Then they eat something that is high in carbohydrates and makes it worse.  One needs to eat protein, according to the article.  Interestingly, people who do not have normal reactions to dumping are more likely to regain weight, because they do not have the negative experiences, but simply do feel that they are hungary...and this is not head hunger.  I thought this was very interesting and wanted to pass it along, as it helped me.

I have low blood sugar effects when I dump. I have to lie down and it will pass in about 15- 20 minutes. It does not happen often but it does happen. Yes, I have regain 30 punds in the almost 4 years I have been post op, however, I am told I look better. Thanks for sharing this info. I feel inclines to research it more. Note: However, since the stress has eased out of my life for now, I am loosing again.

I just love hearing more and more that we can learn about being post ops.  It's an amazing journey that we learn more about each and every day.  Thanks for sharing your experience with us too, Gail.

I dump! ROFL! TMI? But I do and twice I dehydrated afterwards. Once from drinking my husbands great coffee...very strong! But, I learned I need to drink decaf. The first time I drank it I did ok. The next time I think he added more coffee than usual.  YIKES! Thanks for the information. I'm going to have to be careful!

Can ya post the link to the article???  I would love to read the article. I DUMP NOW...and when I was a year and less did NOT dump, so, I guess I behaved then and now I much more to try new things that make me dump?  Just depends on what it is as to what I dump on...and dumping isn't just  OR , it is so much more much like the article is talking about.

Thanks for the info.  I dump on the strangest things.  Like salad dressing and even buffalo wing sauce.  I break out in a (tmi) sweat on my face only.  LOL  Thanks again for posting this.  How true it is.  We all dump in some way or another.

I dump on Sweet & Sour Sauce, BBQ Sauces and Peanut Butter.  I have to watch what I eat b/c the hidden sugars in foods get to me.
