Buffalo franks

Since some of you asked what they are....they are franks made out of buffalo meat.  They are very low fat and higher protein than beef.  They are really good and don't have as much of the "junk" meat in them that other franks do.  They are a little more expensive, but well worth it to those of us who are trying to increase our protein and not eat "junk" food.  The ones that I buy have less filler and are not cured with the same kind of spice that Bryan's, etcl is cured with.  Low sodium....just generally, a healthier choice.  Buffalo is much better for you than beef, but it is definitely more expensive.  However, I am only feeding one person, so the expense is not as noticable as if I were feeding a bunch of kids.    I usually double and triple the protein with cheese and chili to top it all off.  I like lots of onions, too.  I don't do chips or french fries.  Oh, yes, I also toast my hotdog bun a little to make it dryer so it is easier on my stomach.  And I either have Splenda tea or Crystal lite to drink later.  A sugar free popcycle is a good desert...or sometimes I have 6 of them.  I also may have a snowcone or icee that I make with my ice shaver.  They do make sugar free snow cone syurp, but you can make your own by using sugar free koolaid or crystal lite with only half the water added.  You have to play with the recipe to get it to the consistency and sweetness that you want.    All that shaved ice is a good way to get in your water on these hot summer days and still hold the calories down.

Karla: I'm willing to give em a try!  Especially for the protein!  Where do you buy them?  I have limited options here in LA (Lower Alabama!). JOHN

John and Jackie, I buy them from Publix here in Tuscaloosa.  Let me tell you what is on the label.says:  No fillers, no by products, natural smoke flavor added.  No nitrites or nitrates added except those naturally occuring in  celery powder and sea salt.  44% less sodium and 47% less fat in comparison to USDA data for Beef Franks.  1 frank is 11 grams of protein.  160 calories.  12 grams of fat, saturated fat 5 g., Cholesterol 50 g.or 17%, sodium 480 mg. carbohydrate 1g.  sugars 1.g.  this is for one frank.  Buffalo raised without pesticides, antibotics or growth harmones.  Never ged aminal byproducts.  These are natural and uncured.    The company is Maverick Ranch brand from Denver, CO.  email address is www.maverickranch.com    so obviously you could order them, I guess.

I am giving you all this information, because I know that Jackie will understand this and it is important to her.  I like the taste of them better and they don't give me indigestion like regular franks, even the kosher ones bother me.   These do not.
