Topic: oh heck no!
Post Date: 2/4/07 5:58 pm I was reading an article on yahoo news about WLS and this woman at UC Berkley who is a nutritionist made a comment about how WLS is just a quick fix. I of course immediatley (and yes diplomatically) informed her otherwise. but I definantly think she needs to hear more voices especially from those who are post op. here is the link tot he article and since her email is no longer valid here is the email to her co-worker. email: contact member for email address article on yahoo news: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070205/ap_on_he_me/obesity_surgery_kids;_ylt=AtLH2jFVZgdE1hvj5w3XlV9I2ocA;_ylu=X3oDMTA5aHJvMDdwBHNlYwN5bmNhdA-- Edited by OH Staff to comply with copyright and privacy on the email.

Topic: How about an OH Conference?
Dr. Monica Ganz will be in Anchorage Alaska Sunday July 21. How would you like a half day conference with great information, insight, and motivation? At this time we want to see if those of you in Alaska would be interested.

Topic: NEED ADVICE- My Diabetes is returning
I am about 14 months out and had this surgery (R-N-Y) not only to lose weight but to resolve uncontrollable high blood sugars of about 3 years duration. I had been in clinical trials for new diabetic drugs including Byetta before it was approved, and nothing would bring my sugars down. I went on a 30-hour-fast as a test and my sugars did not fall below 200. After the surgery, my meds were cut from 7 to two and I was able to leave behind the ones bringsing the worst side effect with them. About 4 months I hit a weight plateau and my sugars started to go back up. My diet structure did not change substantially and I even cut back when I reached the plateau. Glucose values had been 130-150 consistently, but now bounce between 130-210. Diet alterations and increased excercise have had almost no effect. My weight is stabalized, but I still need to lose about another 30 pounds. HAVE ANY OF YOU HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE? If so, please let me know if you found a way to jump-start the weight loss, what your surgeon had to say about the reversal, and what success you had at reducing the sugar values. Any information concerning your similar experience would be appreciated!

I originally had a RNY 12/01 The Surgery was a failure from day one.. i immediatly got pancreantitis which busted my pouch open. and put a hole in my colon)emergency surgery for that but i was too swollen and infected for him to fix my pouch) and in my stomach... i spent 6 months in the hospital recovering.. only weight i lost.. was the weight from not eating anything. completly NPO for the whole 5 months.. was being fed threw my veins.. anyway took me a long time to even find a dr who would go in and attempt a revision im using dr frantzides in evanston IL ive read most of your post on this forum and im nervous and HECK now.. (sigh) i assumed for me.. since the surgery was a failure from day one.. that a revision would be just like starting all over fresh.. now im wondering if it would be even worth risking getting sick again.. for it not to even work right.. Topic: Its time to Register for the Friends of WLS Boston Gathering
Its time to register for the Friends of WLS Boston Gathering March 23-25, 2007. Please feel free to pass this information on to anyone that you think would enjoy this weekend. This weekend is open to all, Gastric Bypassers, Lapbanders, Dsers, etc. Boston Gathering of Friends of WLS Friday, March 23, 2007 - Sunday, March 25, 2007 Adults Only Registration Deadline is February 9, 2007 Late Registration Deadline is March 2, 2007 This weekend is about connecting with people that can understand the journey we have taken and having some fun with fellow WLSers and support people. I have finalized the Hotel information for the Boston Gathering. The cost of the hotel is $79.00/per night, this is per room. You can call the hotel to make your reservations at 1-800-325-3535 or (781) 848-0600 by March 2, 2007: Sheraton Braintree Hotel 37 Forbes Road Braintree, MA 02184 (Exit 6 off Interstate 93/state Route 128 ) We have been very fortunate to secure the $79.00 room rate again this year. The hotel has a good size pool, hot tub and saunas. They also have a full gym (Braintree Athletic Club) they offer daily memberships at $7.00 a day. If nothing else, it's a great getaway for the dreary end of winter... As a lot of us did at past gatherings, I recommend doubling, tripling and quadrupling up. Saturday during the day you will be free to go sightseeing in Boston or do whatever you like. There is a wonderful shopping mall across the street from the Hotel. It is a very reasonable car ride from PA, NJ, NY, CT, NH, VT, ME, MD, RI If you are interested in flying into Boston you have three airports to choose from. The first one is Boston's Logan International Airport, the other two are located about an hour away from Boston. They are in Manchester, New Hampshire and Providence, Rhode Island (TF Green). There is a shuttle to the hotel from Boston's Logan Airport. - See Logan Express Braintree is also on the T's red line (the T is Boston's rapid transit). The red line is accessible to South Station (where most Amtrak''s come into from the South.) The Tara (as it's known in the area) will gladly pick you up from the Quincy Adams T station. Please feel free to bring your Significant Other, but children will not be allowed at the Friday night or Saturday night events. In addition the Boston area has a WEALTH of nearby attractions. In late March you're looking at doable weather for walking trips in Boston. Also historic Plymouth is only a 40 minute drive (the Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower are there) And Quincy, the next town over is historically rich as well. Here is a brief overview of the weekend festivities: Friday, March 23, 2007 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. - Mix and Mingle 10:00 p.m.- 11:00 p.m. - Private Pool Party Saturday, March 24, 2007 5:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. - Dinner/Dancing Keynote Speaker is Dr. Harry Pino, Exercise Physiologist, New England Medical Center, Boston, MA Sunday, March 25, 2007 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Farewell Breakfast Here are the costs associated with the weekend. Topic: RE: ANGEL BABIES LOOKING FOR A WING !!!!
Hello, I live in Anchorage, Alaska and I was banded on December 11, 2006. I started out at 285 and I weighed 267 last week. I will go for my first fill last part of January 2007. I did pretty good on liquids for 19 days. I have been eating solids for 4 days and I'm pretty sure that I have blown it. I can't seem to know when I'm full until after I'm stuffed and I'm so scared that I have stretched my pouch. If I have done that, then what have I gone through all of this for. That means I'll just have to loose this weight on my own and if I could have done that by now I would have. Anyway, I was hoping to find someone in my area to help or I could be someone in my area that can help. Anyway, I think I need to get connected to some people FAST! Thanks, Rhonda
