Congratulations Brittany! I know your excitement. It is truly a wonderful feeling. I am 2 1/2 years post open RNY but I'll share what I can. I was off work 3 weeks but certainly not up to par. They told me to walk, walk, walk and I do believe that helps with recovery. Lap RNY - I just don't know. I would think the recovery time will be sure be less than with open but adjusting to eating (or not eating) will probably be the same. I think the best advice I would give you is to take advantage of this time to learn healthly eating habits and get all the professional/organized support that you can. You'll loose weight for the first year or two almost regardless but then - wham! you're on your own and you'll be back where you were if you aren't prepared.

Topic: RE: 3+ Years Post Op - gain
You're not alone, Becky, and you've done the right thing by reaching out. I'm a little over 3 years post op, hovering at around 145 down from 360; my lowest was 138 as well and I felt so fantastic at that weight; I am determined to get back there this year. I find the battle is just like everyone else's on the planet now - refrain from eating junk; work out hard and often; and try to live life by feelings of joy and passion instead of by the numbers on the scale. It's damned hard. If I slack on the exercise or indulge in crap food (I have a real problem with chocolate lately - never was a chocolate person but sure am now...), my weight goes up pretty quickly, usually in 3 lb. increments. You're absolutely not alone. You're struggle is our struggle. Anyone going into this surgery thinking it's a quick and easy fix will simply not be successful, that's all there is to it. You MUST do the work--healthy eating and vigorous and regular exercise--every day to maintain the weight loss. If you don't commit to these behavioral changes, you will regain the weight - strong words but no getting around it. I fight every single day to stay in the 140s. Best of luck and let us know how you're doing, don't stay away. We're here to help. Maureen

Topic: 3+ Years Post Op - gain
Been 2 years since I've wrote/posted. I had surgery 7/02 at 262 - dropped to the lowest at 138. Seems like I gain at 5 lb increments. My weight currently is at 158. So there has been a gain. I need to do something because I am beginning the depressed feelings since gaining. I plan to follow WW online for a few weeks/months and see if I can get back down to @ 150. I think if I just follow the basics again, and watch what I eat, and do a bit of exercise - I can do it. (I hope). The past year, I know that I have not been doing what I need to- and I need to be back on track. I will check in again sooner! Anyone have this problem?

Topic: RE: Food getting Stuck
I am 2 years out and sometimes still have this problem. It's not always at night though. It's usually when I've eaten meat and there is no rhyme or reason to it. I can eat something and be fine then the next day eat the same thing and it gets stuck. I have noticed I go through spells for a week or two when everything gets stuck and then it will stop and I'll be fine for awhile. Wish I could figure it out. Take care! Scarlette

Topic: I was just approved for surgery...
Well everyone I am pretty sure this is my first post.. It is so great to know there are others out there that are going through the same stuff as me. I am 26 years old and have been over weight my whole life. I have PCO or Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrom which makes the who dating thing a little differnt. I am sick or sad about not only being overweight but what is with the excess body hair.. NOT COOL. Why cant the bad people of the world have body hair instead of me?? Just a random question. What guy is able to look past the fact that his girlfriend has facial hair.. I dont even like my face to be touched or to laugh freely and tilt my head back in fear of seeing my facial hair.... Okay onto more happy things.. I recieved my approval from the insurance company on Friday the 23 of March. WOOHOO. I jumped up out of my chair and did a little cheerleader move with spirit fingers and everything... WOOHOO. I am starting my pre-op diet now.. and trying to figure out what I should be doing...Any ideas? I have went to my doctors website.. Dr. Todd. He is amazing. Should I start drinking protein shakes now and get use to my liqude diet now or what? I will be given a surgery date on Wednesday 28 at 10am... I feel like I am on my way to a new life.. I am so excited. What should I expect after sugery? I am having a laproscopic RNY. How much time should I be expecting to miss from work? I have a pretty lite job sitting at a desk answering phones so I was thinking including in hospital time like a week.. is that enough time? I am sure I have many more questions but I hope to hear from others on the issues I addressed first. Many prayers and blessings. Brittany
