There also is a group that meets the 2nd & 4th Weds of the month at the Fairbanks Cancer Treatment center  7 pm - 8 pm, I also have started a SGM the 4th Thurs of the month 11 am - Noon, at the Noel Wein Library either in the meeting room or the conference room.  For my meeting if there is enough interest in more than once a month than I will look at that.

I just thought I would let you know that there were more options than just the one at TVC.

If you have any questions please feel free to PM me and I will PM you my phone number.

Topic: Happy Birthday to "Someone"?!?

Yesterday after a horrible day at work I managed to drag my still recovering self (I still can't hear and am really tired) over the sky bridge and into the gym. I walked 3.5 miles and burned 460 calories. Yeah! for me, except that I looked,um, well let's just say that the children at Lilith's school didn't run away screaming when I walked in to pick her up but I sure didn't get any of them coming up and trying to talk to me like they usually do.
I got this great idea to try this Japanese restaurant on the way home. Will was against it. I offered to allow him to go in first and if he didn't like what he saw, we could gladly turn around and go somewhere else. He refused so we went in. It was bad folks. It was so bad that they had a cake on the buffet line that had still had "Happy Birthday" written on it, the name part was already gone. So Will started singing, Happy Birthday to "Someone". Lilith joined in. I wanted to die but considering the food was so bad (I had mistakenly thought it might be healthier than Chinese food) and the fish tanks that made up the inside wall of the booths(which had the potential to be beautiful and even were still awe inspiring in a sad way)were so moss and alga filled that I wanted to rescue the fish in them, I knew we wouldn't be back. So, let my husband and daughter sing, the restaurant should have been embarrassed to put someones obviously unclaimed birthday cake out on their buffet line anyway. What made me sadder was the $40 we basically threw away. Lilith ate some noodles and some of the sad birthday cake. I ate some shrimp, tried their soup (which was basically water and cabbage), the salad bar was just a lettuce bin and some dressings (seriously that was all it had), and I was afraid to try the sushi after the one roll I attempted to eat was warm and mushy.
Will ate some tough boiled meat and some fish. I refuse to believe that the best salad bar in town is at the Hospital where I work but it is starting to look that way.
Maybe I should try to look on the positive side, "Hey I get to eat at the best salad bar in town and even get a discount 5 days a week!"...um not buying it.
At least I am going on 3 years post op and able to eat salad again.

Are there any besides at Providence Hospital?
Do I dare ask about Chinese food too?
At going on 3 years post op, I am able to eat salad again and I miss the Souper Salad and Sweet Tomoatoes they had in Colorado  (salad buffet resturants).  I can't seem to find anything close here.  Please tell me I am just looking in the wrong place!

Is this the only company that sells the product?  Yes shipping here sucks.  Half the time I am cancelling orders.  Heck sometimes I order over the phone and am told "We only ship to the United States"  What is that....lol....HERES YOUR SIGN!  Someone actually said "There should be an American Embassy there"  OMGoodness.

So I am doing better.  I am definately getting my water in.  I am still short of my 108 grams of protein by food only, so I am supplementing with ProteinSlam 27.  I really hate the tingle feeling I have with it, but it is the only protein I have found that I can actually keep down.  I am going to try ProSlam 45 when I am out of the 27.  I heard it taste the same, but lot more protein.  I haven't weighed myself, because the scale is not going to rule my life.  As long as my size 16's fit I am happy.

Now for the most important that I have negelected since having the twins.  I have not been to a doctor to get my blood work done.  I have to say that I am so happy that before I left New Mexico that I went to my Doc and asked for my WLS records.  My Doc here has no clue what blood work I need done.  I did fine a lab work request and it has the following tests that my GP Doc always asked for:
    - CMP (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel) - this consists of 14 different tests.  Two for sugars, two for proteins, four for electrolytes, two for kidneys and four for the liver.
    - Ferritin - looks at Iron levels and proteins
    - Serum Iron - Iron
    - TIBC (Total Iron Blood Count) - Iron
    - Vitamin B-12 - B-12 helps with DNA synthesis, repairs the brain and nervous systems.  Deficiency can cause ftique, depression, and poor memory.
    - Serum Folate - This is a B-9/Folic Acid.  It helps produce healthy red blood cells and helps prevent anemia.
    - CBC w/Diff (Complete Blood Count) - This is a complete blood count of red and white blood cells and platelets.  A good count help prevent infections and diseases.
    - Albumin - I am not really sure.  All I do know is that if your to high it is usually caused by dehydration.  If you are too low then it can cause liver disease.
Now these next two test I have to get done because I have had pancreatitist.
    - Amylase - Is an enzyme that breaks down starch to sugar.  Pancreas makes Amylase.  It helps make and break down complex sugars.  To much could cause acute inflammation of the pancreas.
    - Lipase - Performs essential roles in the digestion, transport and processing of dietary lipids such as triglycerides, fats and oils that the pancreas has to process.

Ok so I have a call into my doc to get the blood work done and to get a referral to be seen a GP Doc since it is time.

Topic: New! Believe Chai ready to drink protein
I would love to give this a try... I really would. With 20 grams of protein, 120 calories per serving (9.5 fl ounces), 0 grms fat, 5 grms of carbs, and 3.5 grms of sugar..it sounds like it would be great. It's even not that expensive $29.99 per case which works out to roughly $2.50 each which when you consider what most people spend on their daily Starbucks drink..it doesn't sound like much at all. Heck, even a chai at the cafeteria where I work is more than that! I am ready to order then I see the "calculate shipping button". I enter my zip code and there is where things go horribly wrong....their cheapest shipping option (UPS 2nd day air) is $55.70 for one case! The only other option, UPS next day air, is $96.80!!!! I cannot justify spending more on the shipping than I am on the product itself! Another hidden cost for living in Alaska! Or so I thought till I entered my mothers Colorado zip code and was quoted the exact same rates! So I went to their shipping information page and am greeted with...
"Shipping and Other Information You're not spending... you're investing in your health!"
If that isn't saying, "Hey, we know our shipping costs are outrageous", I don't know what is!
Then if you scroll down further you get the following disclaimers about their shipping...

Topic: Eielson AFB
Hi, I just wanted you to know that I am going to start up a support group at Eielson AFB.  I know there is a meeting in Fairbanks at the Tanana Clinic once a month, but that is just not enough for me and I am sure for some of you also.  Plus it is pretty far away, especially during the winter months.

I don't have a date yet for the first meeting, but just wanted you let you know.  The first meeting will be just a meet and greet and open forum.  After that each meeting will be based on a topic and at the end we will have open forum for questions, new discoveries (samples and stuff) and Ah Ha moments.

God Bless
Debbie

Topic: RE: New and have surgery questions!
Welcome to the boards. you should check out the lap band board! I know what the docs tell us but I dont by it. I have lost 90% of my excess weight so fare. I plan to get that last 10% off by the fall when I mark my one year. I think it all depends on the person and if they fallow the rules of wls and the band. I know people with rny and we are losing at the same rate.
There are people with the band that loose slowly and some that dont. I believe it all depends on how badly you want to change and stick with the changes that you make. This is not a diet, it is a life style change.
If you have any questions just ask, but also check out the band board.
