SIDE EFFECTS OF RNY??!!! HELP!!

 Im in the process of getting the RNY through Dr. Searles and i was wondering if anyone has had him? Also I wanted to know the side effects the bad ones! of the surgery. Im trying to see if i need to get the surgery done out of state closer to my family or if my husband can handle it. I want the truth and even if its gross.

Dr. Searles did my RNY on 4/13/10.  He did a great job.  I haven't had any problems so far.  It's important to be responsible for taking care of yourself after the surgery, getting in the water, protein, staying on pureed foos for the first month, taking your vitamins.  I did alot of research on my own.  I ended up seeing my primary doc for nine months before the surgery, so I had alot of time to consider the consequences.  I only had my adult son at home with me.  He drove me home from the hospital and that's about all he had to do.  Everybody is different though.   I like Dr. Searles and I'm glad I didn't travel out-of-state.

Dr Searles did my surgery and he was wonderful. He can seem very abrupt but he really does know his stuff. The nurses in his office are also wonderful and are always willing to answer my questions...even now. I was so thankful to have my husband to help me after surgery. I did a lot of research before my surgery and spoke with my husband about it all so he was prepared.  I did not have any complications but it was painful for about two weeks and I don't know what I would have done with out my husband. The worst side effect I would say is the gas and the burping. But, I'm learning that if I eat/drink slowly then it's not bad. I also learned very quickly what I could and could not eat. My biggest advice is listen to your body. Right now the hardest side effect is the hair loss. My doctor told me it was going to happen and that it'll stop and grow back but it's been very hard to deal with. I feel like I'm going bald! :)

Surgery date is August 24, 2010. I am so ready. Will have to stay in Anchorage for 10 days but that is o.k. I think he is great, he answered all my questions and really got me on the right road. His staff treats you like family and that is hard to find these days. I can not wait for this new life and all that it brings. A very blessed women today.
