Hello, new here.

Hello everyone, my name is Jessica. I am 16 and I live in Anchorage. The WLS surgery I am interested in is the DS and I understand that there are no DS surgeons here in anchorage, I was wondering if anyone knows if Alaska medicaid covers the DS? here a link to my "story" I posted on the DS board. My BMI is 88.9 and my weight is 502.

hey jessica ...nice to have you here...i would have to say that given your weight they wont do the DS...but they will do the VSG.....and that will be the first part of the surgery and once you lose a good part of your excess weight they will be able to proceed to the second half of the DS... i work in the bariatric clinic both here in alaska and also back in washington state and i have always seen them do the VSG and then if you didnt lose as much as they thought you should have then they will do the DS but you would definately get the VSG  until you are at a healthier weight and who knows you might get the VSG and not even need to proceed to the DS...i wish you the best of luck....
