DR. JOHN MAYER, FAIRBANKS
Hi....
I used to work at Bassett Army Hospital about 7 years ago when Dr Mayer was (you're right Kari) active duty there. He was highly respected and very competent as a general surgeon. I had heard he was doing WLS here in town and I had hoped to have him as my surgeon but he doesn't take tricare, to which I was disappointed to hear. It sure would save the army a ton of money to have him do the surgeries locally instead of paying boocoo bucks to send us all down to Anchorage.......oh well.
One of my current coworkers had him as her doc when she had RNY about 2 years ago. She has had nothing but great things to say about him..........
Good luck on your journey.........I'm just starting mine as well!

Misty,
Dr. Mayer conducted an RNY on me November 12, 2007. He is just an all around great guy and his bedside manners are the best. He has a great staff who are always willing to help. At last count he had done about 50 something RNY's. I haven't had any complications at all and I fully recommend. I wish you all the luck and don't be afraid and don't be afraid to ask questions.

The hospital care was great. The only problem I had was when they brought me a sherbert popsicle that was loaded with sugar. Other than that all was great. I was actually impressed with the care. The nurses were wonderful and all the equipment was as modern as you can get. Nothing like the stuff you find at the Family Medical Clinic in town. Well, good luck with everything and if you have any questions or you get to that point where you get scared (and you will) don't hesitate to drop me a line. Good luck!
