So I had my follow up appointment with the dietician today, she's really happy with everything I'm doing and my progress and has signed off on her approval for my surgery. Apparently I won't see her again until I'm on the flip side.
I asked what was left to come, I've already got a surgery info class in a couple of weeks, and a week later I have a quick appointment with my Nurse (apparently this can be a phone call appointment) who will make an appointment to see the surgeon and arrange for any tests they might deem necessary. After the surgeon's consultation I have to attend a surgery prep class, and then I just wait.
Apparenty it could be as little as a month or as much as a year after the prep class. I feel I can see the end in sight!

Hi there,
i am having surgery in Edmonton and have doing my appointments in Grande Prairie. In my appointments they told me I would be taken by Dr.karmali. Didn't even have the option at my surgery consult. But I am happy he will be my surgeon as I did a little research on him.
Oh I completely agree! I usually am not much of a patient person to begin with and the waiting kills me ?
No scope for me. But yes, compliance definitely seems to speed up the process. I had taken all of the Weight Wise courses prior to getting in to the clinic. When you look back, it really doesn't seem that long. I just wish I had done it earlier in my life, like in my 20s or 30s, not my 40s.

I thought so too! But when I look back it has gone quick! I've started to get ready and have been preparing. Leslie who I see in Grande Prairie told me it's going go super quick now. I have a feeling I may get my call after April, when is my next set appointments. But I see the nurse this time. ? My advice is being compliant. Do the tests as quick as you can and get them their results. Everyone in Edmonton have to do scopes.... when I went for my consult they were handing them out like crazy to everyone. I had mine done all on my own cause I had an insider tip that they would ask. Lol
Please reconsider Mexico. I thought about it and when I came across a few horror stories I went for my referral. I have been in the program just over a year(sept) had my surgeon approval June. Now I am 5-7 months away from surgery. Time goes quick! Be compliant and do what is asked and you'll be fine. I read a story last week about a woman who went for a sleeve and came back to Alberta and had to go to Alberta revision clinic to try and get fixed. The screwed up so bad that they couldn't help her. She now eats through a stomach tube because they removed something like 95% of her stomach. This is a tool and not an easy fix. They don't teach you how to change your lifestyle for your surgery to work. I have seen women who went to Mexico and had surgery... lost a bunch of weight but now they have gained a lot back because they went back to their prior ways.
I would seriously be very cautious when considering surgery in a foreign third world country where you cannot drink the water. Although, many stories where everything went fine. The result Alberta health report that the average person who gets bariatic outside of Canada costs the health care system $125,000/person in extra cost fixing the problems.
Although many cost the system nothing extra some cost a lot. One women in Edmonton life is in terrible shape she will never be well again and has Coates just over 1,000,000.
Waiting seem a long time but you ate building skills you need the rest of you life to stay thin. We didn't become M. OBESITE in less than a year. I to was frustrated waiting but looking back it now seems like not such a long (but not at the time)
It is frustrating waiting I understand
Be gentle on your self
Good luck Jenn!
This time between referral and surgery is frustrating, but at the same time I know it's getting my head in the place it needs to be. I've already been told they don't foresee me needing an endoscope or additional tests, so I'm just going through the motions. I've an appointment with my dietician on Monday so I'll ask what is still to come.
I have been in the program just over a year. Because I was an out of town refereal they ordered me tests everytime I saw them..which I did right away. Had my surgeon consult in June and was approved for surgery. They told me 14 months until surgery..I went in for a follow up and she pointed out I am 5 months away and time is going go by quick...and I will probably get my call very soon.
