Topic: RE: Wait Times Between Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary

I was referred in November of 2013 to the Edmonton clinic. Had my first appointment there in October of 2014 and have my first appointment with the surgeon on Monday (June 1). I am told the current wait for surgery will be 9-12 months after that. Before I went to the clinic I had completed all of the workshops but that is not a prerequisite for the clinic in Edmonton. I found the workshops to be great and am glad I took them all. I don't have any complications or areas where I need some additional support from the clinic (such as psychiatrist, sleep clinic, any other health issues). During the period from October of 2014 until now, I have had 5 appointments with the nurse, 4 with the dietician, 2 with the psychologist and 2 with the Internist to get my referred to the surgeon. As I mentioned, I am having my first appointment with the surgeon on Monday so that is a little over 7 months from my first appointment at the clinic to seeing the surgeon and then 9-12 months (I believe it is trending more around the 12 months) for surgery.

Looking for information on wait times on refurals to clinics, to the different appointments to the times of getting into surgery.  I am half way done the modules as of today. My doctor said he will refure me once I started. But my next doctor appointment is June 17th. By then I will have 7 of the modules done.

I spent 22 months before surgery two weeks ago. It's a long haul and can be frustrating.

I got sick last night as well.  It is tough.  I actually jus****ched an episode of W5 tonight that was about teenagers who were having this surgery because of their obesity.  They were allowed to consume lean proteins on top of the shakes, it seemed a lot easier than what I am doing that is for sure ;-)

On kid didn't lose enough on his pre diet and they were worried about the liver but in the end they were able to complete the surgery.

It was perfect timing to watch such a show.

Well the shakes make me gag and I can barely stomach them but I must be doing something right because I am down 15 lbs  my first week.  I have to do 3 weeks and I was hoping to lose at least 20 during that time and I think may hit that 20. Next stop week 2.

To those who are getting ready to start your pre-op diet, just remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel and this journey is a tough one but it is going to be worth it.

Stay strong!

i just hate to see you pay out of province , I was actually told by another woman from red deer who lives in grande cache now that  her wait time was only  6 weeks so maybe just maybe you wont have such a long wait ,  I was also told  even when you claim  your medical you don't get the full amount  credited to your taxes as it  usually exceeds  how true that is  im not sure ,  but I wish you all the best   im sure you know whats best for you  when its all said and done you  will just smile more because you will be  happier your doing something better for your health   not counting the fun it will be to shop for new clothing    lol

Thank you so much morning and you are absolutely correct I have a patience issue and I need to learn how to manage that. I know Mexico does not have any programs before or after surgery and good luck getting a doctor here to set up a post op program if you do go to mexico so I am just going to carry on and wait BUT I will call that number for modules and see what it's all about....THANK YOU AGAIN I REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT

Topic: RE: 3rd Day In on 3 week pre-op diet

I am allowed oatmeal for breakfast, so that helps with my hunger for at least half the day.  I try to fit in 2-3 shakes a day and then I am allowed a cup and a half of veggies.  So tonight I sautéed peppers and onions and that as good for dinner.

These shakes really taste gross as time goes by but I guess we need to keep telling ourselves there is an end in sight.
