I went to my doctor last October for my referral, he said no problem. I found out yesterday that he did not do it. I am extremely pissed, It has been 8 months that I could have been on the waiting list, now I have to start all over again.
Make sure to follow up with either your doctor or the weight Clinic to make sure you have been added.
Hullo, I'm new here and have just been accepted into the Bariatric Program in Calgary. I start the classes in August and am looking forward to them. Does anyone here have diabetes type 2 and have had their surgery? I've heard people have had their meds greatly reduced or have completely come off them within days or weeks of their surgery date. Was just wondering if anyone has information in regards to this ?
Thanks for your time!

I think you would have to start fresh in the clinic. In Calgary, two of us have stared a Facebook closed group. There are a few members that have already had surgery, some who have dates for surgery and some who are brand new. If you are interested, please let me know and I can message you the information.

I called the Red Deer clinic and they said to put a complaint in for my doctor. They also said that I could just go to a medi centre and get referred. So that's what I did today!
Hi Tara!
Just wondering how your surgery went? How
was the recover time? And what surgery did
u have?
I was referred to the Calgary clinic from my doc Dec 2013, intake assesment was Jan 2014. Classes was Feb/March 2014 in between nurse visits and appointments. Surgery March 2015. So for me it was about a year and 1 month for the whole process. There were a few ladies in my classes that were about the same time give or take a month. If you do what they ask of you and no other major health problem the wait isn't that long.
I am thinking that my surgery will be in Edmonton though I'm not 100% sure. I just received a letter yesterday from the bariatric clinic here in grand prairie and they told me it is an 8 to 10 wait just to get to the clinic. They did give me information on the prerequisites for the surgery that I can go ahead and start now while I wait for the clinic appointments. Things such as the food journal, exercise sessions, diet and nutrition classes, etc. however long it takes, I am willing to wait so that I can finally proceed with the surgery. Thanks for answering my question, and I'm sure there'll be many more to follow.
I had my VSG surgery on June 1st and for the first 24 hours, I was like "what the heck did I do" and now I am so thrilled. Going through the motions and making things happen right now. I started my protein diet at 338 and am now 292. I am on my way and I couldn't be happier.
Good job on your journey and I hope to be the same way in a year time.
Cheers!
PS. I too have my before pics around my house ;-)
