I have always referred to my surgery as "my partner" because I have to work with my surgery to make this weight loss happen. Just because you have the surgery, ,doesn't mean you can still eat the things you always did. You now have a much smaller stomach and you need to try to get a well balanced diet in this smaller tummy. It is definitely tough and I sometimes struggle with that but coming to grips with the fact that you still have to work your butt off after surgery, is the first step. "My partner (surgery)" and I do lots of exercise and eating right. The weight is dropping day by day and it is not only becuas eI have a much smaller appetite and stomach, it is because I realize I have to still work hard
I am so sorry you had difficulty in the hospital. that doesn't sound enjoyable at all. My experience in the hospital was good, except for the wait until I could finally have some water.
the issue you are having about the full feeling is not something I have. I don't feel hunger very often and I have to remind myself to eat and I get full pretty quick but I don't have the full feeling you are describing. What surgery did you have?
You should definitely talk to your doc and the dietician.
HI ShellaB, I was so glad just now to see your post. I just posted one with some concerns about my eating being 7 days post surgery myself.
I have some questions for you if you don't mind.
Immediately after surgery did you feel a full feeling in the tummy area where the stomach was pretty much all the time? I have not felt hungry once since surgery and have to force myself to consume anything because it only aggravates and makes worse the already heavy and full feeling I have all the time. I have some concerns because I know I have not consumed more than 2.5 cups of anything on any given day since surgery and most certainly not enough protein.
I am waiting to hear back from my dietitian who I just left a message for.
I had my surgery on August 4. I should have been discharged on Thursday August 6, but was discharged yesterday on Sunday Aug 9 instead when I went into respiratory failure Wednesday in the middle night and was brought to the ICU.
This problem was present over the weekend in the ICU and has extended to my journey home. The ICU was no help because they have no knowledge of gastric bypass surgery, it was the weekend and I could not call my dietitian or the bariatric clinic, I have put in a call now and am waiting for a call back. I just thought someone here might have some feedback.
I literally feel full, heavy feeling in my upper stomach ALL the time. I have not EVER felt hunger since surgery. In fact I have to force myself to consume anything including water because it seems to just increase that full and heavy feeling. I need to know, has anyone else experienced this from the get go? Am I alone? Does it mean my pouch is too small maybe? Or the openings are too small? I have not consumed more than 2.5 cups of anything on anygiven day since I have been back on first clear fluids and then full fluids.
Any help, words of support etc would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I am going to my first Weight Wise Session on August 28th and I am wondering what to expect? I am currently 85 lbs over the top of my ideal weight range. I have some medical challenges that make me quite tired and ill sometimes so while I do exercise when I can my health doesn't allow this sometimes - certainly not strenuous things such as running, weight lifting, etc...
What are the criteria that makes you eligible for surgery, and what is the process does this happen through your family doctor or through the Weight Loss clinic? Has anyone been through this process in Fort McMurray and have anything to share regarding the process?
Thanks,
JD
I guess I shouldn't say "I don't want to eat", I meant I don't feel hunger to eat very often. It is strange because a half of banana will last for 4 - 5 hours before I start to feel hunger. I sometimes have to remind myself that I haven't eaten anything in a while. I have noticed that protein is more my friend now than it ever was. I don't crave carbs AT ALL and I was a total carb lunatic. I haven't had a slice of bread in about 14 weeks. Very good for me because bread was my go to food all the time.
Thanks Ricky I know I am always trying to help things along...it's totally because of my ADHD diagnosed at age 5 and it really inter fears with a lot of my rational thinking process ugh.......but you are right

So do you not want to eat,,,,,,or you just don't have the hunger to eat?

I do truly hope the best for you and that the surgery helps you immensely. As for Surgery Class there is only one I know of. I went through the weight management courses with Alberta Health. From the start it has been over a year for the classes, and I took some twice, and the approval for surgery. Most of the time is waiting for the approval etc. The classes are mostly 6 weeks @ every Saturday I took one and then dietician meetings, etc. etc. Take the time, I know you want it done but, take it slow and easy and it will come.
Take Care
Ricky
Thank you for your reply Ricky I am scheduled for my first nutrition class in sept. I have had my heart test done, my sleep apnea test (I now have a CPAP machine) my back MRI my knee MRI, my Foot MRI all which show Osteoarthritis,
I know this is not the easy way out it is a tool I need because I do not digest food, I have stomach problems where I look pregnant, my stomach is hard like Im pregnant, I have had every test known to man for several years for the same problem and they cannot find anything wrong. This is my last hope I have had dreams where my husband has operated on me to find out what the problem is. I have had scopes, barium, xrays, ultra sounds, blood work you name it and nothing. I find it hard to bend over i truly look like I am pregnant. I dont have roles my upper body cabity is too hard to have roles. I have done so much research I have tried every diet pill, weigh****chers, calorie counting, elimination of food, eating less, eating more frequently everything, Pain in my body (joints) prevents me from excersizing, I need help, looking so forward to the classes, I am just anxious about surgery because I am hoping that finaly once and for all i will be without pain. I am 49 years old and ever since I was 3 I have had stomach problems. I am loking forward to a new beginning, new life without pain that all :)
