I have my last meeting with my nurse and dietician on Oct 5th and then I will choose my surgeon. I will be having the surgery at the Royal Alex and have no idea about any of the surgeons. I will be having the bypass because of my diabetes. Any advice or opinion on who I should choose.
Thanks,
Jaq
Hey!
Well, I developed an infection in the largest incision site which has set me back a bit pain wise. Thankfully it is surface infection only and should be managed easily.
Eating wise I am basically at the same place I was when I came home from surgery. I made a meal plan with my dietitian for 5 meals a day. And to drink fluids in between. And I tried that plan really hard. It just made the full heaviness worse. So the fact of the matter is that I am not getting in the 9 cups of fluids/food per day that the dietitian is asking for and I still feel full. I am eating 3 times a day and about 3/4 to 1 cup portions. I have moved to the pureed and mashed portion of the diet. I drink fluids in between those three meals. I eat at 8am 1pm and 6pm. I still feel full all day. Sometimes I dare say it is even uncomfortable. I guess if I manage 3 1 cup portions of food and drink about 3 - 4 cups a day I am getting about 7 cups a day. Honestly, my favorite part of the day is first thing in morning when my stomach is empty and I have not put anything in there yet.
My surgeon is Dr. Birch. I got the bypass as opposed to the sleeve because I wanted to do this once. This is only my opinion. It is not based on any advice given to me by the surgeon nurse or etc. I just figured that there was a higher chance of long term success and weight loss if I had not only restricted stomach size but also a reduction in absorption of sugars fat and etc.
I'm sorry I am having bad day today to be honest. My mood is low, I am in a lot of pain. And I honestly feel like I just don't want to ever eat again. I'll try and reply to this again on a better day.
I have the same issue. It's a good problem to have but I agree quite painful.
How're you doing now Brandie?
I too am a patient at the Bariatric Clinic in the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton.
Who was your surgeon? May I ask why you chose the bypass over the sleeve?

Thanks for your reply I am currently looking to see what I eat on a daily basis that provides the protine I need and I think I have it covered with out having to drink those nasty drinks. 3 tablespoons of Hemp Hearts gives you 10 grams for one, plus I drink Special K brekfast replacement which also has another 10 grams of protein (1 a day)

I have been going to the Bariatric Clinic in the Royal Alex Hospital for over a year, but my journey began over two years ago in my hometown (3 hours away). It all depends on what you require and how long the wait time is in between the required appointments, since there is hundreds of people in the Weight Wise program it's longer wait times then you'd hope. Everyones experience is different, I am currently on the Optifast liquid diet so my surgery should be roughly a month away but I don't get a set date until September 3, 2015.
Update I had my Orientation session in Red Deer yesterday and my intake appointment is next Tuesday Aug. 25

I wasn't a big fan of protein powders either until I found the Diesel Protein at Believe Fit. There are a bunch of different flavours and they mix really well with water and taste GOOD! The Believe Fit in our City had a bunch of sample that they gave me to try before purchasing and that helped a lot! Love the Salted Caramel! I also mix them with more water because I don't like stuff that is too sweet. Hope that helps you!
