Does she say why she is opposed? Fear?
Not sure what one could tell someone else except to educate yourselves, this is such an excellent forum for that (VSG).
Well everyone heals differently, but I can tell you that I was back to my regular day to day schedule within a week of surgery. I was back to the gym with my trainer on a very modified program in 3 weeks. You would want to make sure you've given yourself adequate time to adjust to your diet before going on a trip. For me, this would have been about 5-6 weeks before I would want to go away. Hope this helps.
Hey anybody in Fort Mac?
Regards Malcolm
Thank you for getting back to me. I am trying to decide if I want to do the procedure before a birthday trip to vegas in April or after. I am not concerned with eating or not eating, but I dont want to be sore or tired for the trip.... But now that I have decided to do this I also just want to get going...
I was Mexico self-pay because I knew I'd never get the surgery here with a BMI of 41 and no co-morbidities living in Calgary. Or if I did it would take an impossibly long time. it seems that the Calgary program has always had the least capacity to do surgeries. Now I hear they are at a complete standstill, which is absolutely shameful.
So I think the endless jumping through hoops is really just a way to report that they have a program when in fact they don't. I don't consider their big announcement last year to 'double' their surgeries from 25 to 50 a year to be anything to brag about. Nowhere near an acceptable improvement for such a large catchment area. And instead of it actually being the big 50, they are doing none?? A complete disgrace.
I'm disgusted by the lack of response to such a high need area of health care. But if you're 80 and need cataract surgery? No problem! Get a new hip at the same time.
Sorry for the rant, but I do feel a lot of anger about the way that critically overweight people are discriminated against here. Stepping off my soapbox now.

My pre op diet with Dr Aceves was 10 days of an Atkins type diet of high protein low carb.
I was able to have my surgery within a month of making contact with Dr. Aceves' office. We flew Edmonton to San Diego on a Tuesday, was picked up by the hospital driver and transported to the hospital in Mexicali for pre op testing. We were then transported to our hotel where we spent the night before being picked up early Wednesday morning and taken back to Alma Mater hospital for my surgery. My husband stayed with me in the hospital room for the required 3 nights, on Saturday we were driven back to Dan Diego airport for our flight home. Easy peasy. Surgery plus hotel plus transport to and from San Diego included in price of 8750.00.
I'd do it again and again in a heartbeat!

I am also from Edmonton, and I am really wanting to set this up, as soon as I can.
How long is the pre-op diet ? I am trying to figure out when I could possibly take the time off work etc. to make this happen.
You will get in it takes about 6 months just a little patients thats all lol ! Phone them and ask them where you are on the list . That is what i did :0)
Thanks Pauline-- Red Deer sounds like a better process for sure. Fingers crossed that I will hear from them soon-- my referral went in the end of October. :-)

Will Dr Aceves be doing your revision? If so you're going to LOVE him and Dr Campos.
I'm in Edmonton. Where are you?
