Topic: Plan follow before with Dr. Nohr?

Those that have seen Dr. Nohr, did you have any type of plan that you had to follow prior to surgery day ?  I have been reading about this but haven't received instruction from Dr. Nohr.

Eeeekkk - 18 more sleeps!!

Topic: staircase weight loss?

Lately I have been noticing I will stop losing weight for a couple of days even though I have been excising regular and eating healthy. Then after 3 days or so I will lose a couple pounds in a couple of days. It kinda like a staircase where you take a step(lose weight) and then wait to take another step(no weight loss). Has anyone ever experienced this? At the end of the week I do lose an average of 2 to 3 lbs. Its just not a daily decrease. At first it was a bit frustrating but now I'm used to it and it doesn't stress me out like it did at first.

I know that my weight loss will decrease as you get closer to your goal weight. Just wondering what it was like for others.

Thanks

Topic: RE: Anyone out there who did their wls in mexico want to answer a few questions?

I went ahead and booked with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the Obesity Care Clinic in Tijuana.

I weighed 321lbs and they recommended the Gastric Sleeve. Due to my BMI I began a diet on Jan 25th that consisted of the following:

  • Protein shake for breakfast
  • veggie snack
  • Protein shake and a green salad for lunch
  • veggie snack
  • Protein shake, chicken breast and greens for dinner

I did this from Jan 25th to Feb 18th the day before my surgery. I lost 22lbs before my surgery.

I flew from YYC to San Deigo where we were picked up, driven over to Mexico, and stayed at a very nice Marriott.  The OCC paid for my food which was broth, tea and popsicles. They paid 50% of my companions food. They paid for the hotels and shuttles as well.

My total cost all in CDN funds was $6700.

I had a fantastic experience, and during recovery nothing hurts. Everything is very easy and by far the best decision I have ever made.  I have now lost a total of 29lbs since Jan 25th.

I am very happy to support or help in anyway.  I just learned I can expense back to AHC and get around $2200 back, plus you can expense on income taxes as well.

Topic: RE: i'm over stressed

I had sleeve surgery on a Tuesday and was discharged on a Saturday, I did have some vomiting issues and had to stay longer but was told is everything went ok I would have been sent home on Thursday. I had to drive about 2 hours and it was ok but I was super stiff when I went to get out of the car.I also used a pillow to hold against my tummy for the bumpy ride. Also the hospital pillow suck and if your lucky to get more than one it's a bonus so bring my own seemed to ne for the best.

At home I stayed alone as my husband was away working and I was ok. Your really not allowed to be doing anything for 6 weeks so you might need help with laundry and house cleaning. Some say they couldn't drive for a while due to shoulder checking being an issue but honestly for the first 3 weeks I was too weak and tired to even want to drive. By the middle of week 7 I was pretty much feeling normal again and started walking outside and doing more around the house but before that I would tire very easy and needed naps several times a day.

I was lucky to have a great employer and was able to take 12 weeks off and I seriously needed all that time to get use to living on 400 calories and getting to know my new sleeve. Again everyone is different and it's a trial and error thing but with a daycare and the possibility of having to lift children I'd definitely do a whole 6 weeks. Don't want to risk getting a hernia in your abdomen from straining.

Congrats on making it thus far and good luck with yoru surgery.

Kee.

Topic: RE: i'm over stressed

I had surgery on the wednesday and was discharged on saturday. I had a 4.5 hour ride home and found this no problem. I took a pillow along. The only problem was I hadn't really passed much gas but it started on the ride home so every so often I had to stop at a gas station to let some gas out...lol. Other than that it was fine.

It will be slow going for a few days after surgery. At the Royal Alex I had asked for a semi private room but because they were over booked I had to share a room meant for 4, with 5 people(one male as well). Since my husband snores, I had brought some ear plugs along and boy was I glad I did. Because of the crowded room, It was very noisy and some people are not very considerate so I slept better with ear plugs.

I was very scared and afraid of the actual surgery but it went according to plan....hopefully it does for you as well.

Good Luck

Topic: i'm over stressed

I'm finally having the roux-en-Y on march 20th...I'm living outside Edmonton so I'm not in the weight wise clinic....I have a great dietitian over here...and a good family doctor....but that's it.

I don't know at all what to expect right after the surgery...how long will I stay at the hospital? Will I be able to go back home (3h drive) or I should find a place to stay in Edmonton for a couple of days? how long do I need someone at my house to help me out? I have a daycare and a friend of mine will take care of it...but I have to tell her how long I need her...

I'm so happy that THE DAY is right there....I'm waiting for this since my adult life....Just to think that I'll be able to ride my bike with my kids this summer....my first ride with them.....next winter we'll go sliding and skating.....

Thanks. I try my best to be supportive because I know how hard this journey can be. When I joined the forum 3 years ago I had just started the clinic and I had great support so now it's my turn to Pay it Forward.
