What if my doctor won't refer me?

I have researched Weighloss surgery for some time now, and I know that this would be the right choice for me. I spoke with my family doctor about this and he refuses to refer me to a surgeon. I am not sure of what else to do. I am afraid to go speak with a doctor that does not know me and my history and ask them for a referral. Has anyone else had a similar issue and been able to go ahead with their plan to have the surgery? I live in Calgary. Thanks

Anyways if you want you can email me privately and I can give you my doctor's name...he was the one that actually said that I should go for some kind of weight loss surgery because he understands that losing a big amount of weights is VERY difficult... Hi Susana... I just had a doctors appointment and was told she would not refer me either. I got the whole song and dance about how I need to eat healthy and small portions and need to exercise. DUH! Like obese people don't know that already. I am 120 lbs overweight and need this surgery. Does anyone know of a doctor in North. Alberta who gives referrals? Thanks
