Is it normal?

Hello, it's been a while since i've been on here and posted, but i hope all is well with everyone. :) I'm hoping someone can put me at ease and maybe clarify some things for me?

It's been 2 years since my surgery, and i've started having some issues with eating again, and having pain on my upper right side.  I've had a bit of a roller coaster with my health, as i've been anemic and now have to get Iron via IV every few months. Last month i had low potassium, which i was told was unusual and my family Dr. didn't know why.  I was actually admitted to hospital for a couple days as he thought i was hypoglycemic.... fortunately, i'm not.  He wants me to go back to Dr. Nohr for more answers as i haven't been feeling well for the past few months.  My main concern is i am nauseated, but since my surgery, i have not been able to throw up AT ALL.   Its very painful as i just dry heave until the nausea subsides.  Is this a side effect from the surgery to not be able to throw up?  Does anyone have this issue too.

Would love to hear from anyone so i kinda know i'm not alone or making too much out of it....

Take care,

Nelajoal

hi there, sorry you're having a rough go!  I am 6 1/2 yrs out from RNY & cannot vomit at all!  This is a documented side effect of this surgery.  a year ago, i too was diagnosed with anemia, and after stubbornly persisting with oral supplements which did nothing, I take injections every 2 months!  Just a quick question, are you heaving due to dumping or something else?

Thanks for your reply.  I'm just heaving due to being nauseated.  I have only had dumping maybe twice ever and that was in the very beginning. It's good to know that i'm not alone with this issue.   I'm waiting to hear back from Dr. Nohr's office to see if i can see him again...a bit worried he may not see me now that i'm not really his patient anymore.

6 1/2 years is great, have you been able to maintain your weight loss?? I'm a bit worried about gaining again myself...it's a bit easy to "cheat" every now and then.  lol.

Take care,

I would definately go see Dr. Nohr.  He may do a gastroscopy to check things out.
