Red Deer Clinic - Fall/Winter - Any dates set????

Hi everyone,

I went to my first appointment in May and met all my goals and signed my release papers in July.  I've been waiting for a surgery date since then but still nothing.  I'm so frustrated and it's really hard to keep motivated when nothing is happening.  My eating has been awful (or normal depending on how you look at it).  Thankfully I haven't gained any weight yet but I'm sure it's a matter of time.

Has anyone received any fall/winter dates yet?

I feel so forgotten and like completely giving up.  I have an appointment on Wednesday (regular nurse appointment) and I keep thinking I'll just walk in and say I can't do this anymore.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I feel like I'll be fat forever and this is just another failed diet.

Thanks for any responses, Michelle

Hi there

I'm not overly familiar with the wait lists in Red Deer so cannot answer that specific question.  I can tell you, however, that the wait times in Edmonton are nine plus months after the release has been signed.  There is interim follow up with clinic nurses, dieticians and others (as required) but it doesn't shorten the wait.  My release was signed in April and I'm dreaming about December; realizing it is much more likely to be January/February.

Since WLS is a tool rather than a panacea, it requires permanent lifestyle changes.  I appreciate the fact that it is more difficult to lose weight prior to surgery, however, most surgeons/programs require some effort be made in this respect.  I hope you'll make your best efforts in this respect as it will make your post-surgery so much easier.

All the best of luck!

We've all felt this way at some point in time but don't give up. Just let this moment of frustration make you more determine to make it to the finish line this time. Think about how far you have come and the obstacles you have over come to make it thus far. Go back to the early days of journaling and start eating like that again. Rid your home of any trigger foods and tell yourself you're worth it.  This isn't just a fad diet, it's a new way of life. A life you want to live.

Kee.

Kee,

Great advice. I also needed to hear your words. I need to always go back to what was working for me. I get caught up in trying to take so much info in that I forget my core values of weight loss.

Thanks

Lori

Don' t give up just yet it is worth the wait ! I was referred in Feb 2012 and I had my first appointment on Oct 28 2012 and I was just sleeved this past Thursday (I just left the hospital yesterday). It is a long process but worth the wait.
once you start losing weight you completing dedicate yourself to losing the required weight they want.

When I got my surgery date they told me the surgery floor are starting to release more spots for surgery so keep doing what you are doing and it will go by fast . I know you are frustrated but it will happen sooner than you think :) Good luck in your journey :)

I am doing surprisly well :0) I had a rough go in the hospital (i got a infection but they cleared it up fast) I actually don't mind the liquid diet (even tho everyone around me is eating solids lol). I am surprised that I have lost so much weight in less than a week

I am down about 13 pounds . the pain not bad i barely feel any now just the incision sites (i have 6) .

Just wanted to know if you have been cleared for surgery ? If you have you won't wait much longer.

Good luck with your journey (although it is frustrating it is worth the wait)

Great start on your weight loss !!!

I am glad to hear that your feeling good. Infection huh ?? mmm I am most worried about infection as I am the one that will get one before anyone else. sheesh. . .

My surgery date is Nov 7th of this year. I am booked in Tijuana Mx. I fly down on  the 6th, surgery performed the 7th, 2 day recovery in the hospital, 2 day recovery at the hotel and then we will spend an extra night/day in SD before flying home. I am so freaking excited !! lol . . I think I might have said that like a million times now . . does a happy dance !!

I am very very excited about getting this act on the road !!! .

Yes, I have been approved by the surgeon there Dr Venezuela and my own GP here in Okotoks, as well I completed the WLS program in Calgary and was told that I was a great candidate but may not make it this time around as there were many many other before me. No waiting for this lady. Once I got the sweet smell of success and put my mind to it nothing was going to side track me away from my goal. I deserve to be healthy and feel great happiness because all the " slices of my pie" are a balance.  Analogy sucks here but it works if you enjoy a good laugh !!

I enjoy hearing about how your doing. Please keep posting

I think like You I will be okay with the pre op diet. I did a liquid diet many years ago and I was fine on it.

Lets talk soon

Waves hello to Michelle,

I am from Calgary but like You I was devastated every time I walked into either my dietician or psychologist appointment with the great hope that this appointment would be the one where I got the good news. Nope, so once again I would cry my eye's out on the way home . feeling so many emotions.

Like others here I decided that if by Aug of this year I had not heard from the program with a date I would look else where. Through my research I determined that I would be overpaying for surgery here in Canada ( The lap band was the only surgery that I could find here in Canada ) and I wanted the sleeve.

Thank goodness for sites and forums like this because it directed me to surgeons in Mx.

I am now booked for sleeve surgery on Nov 7 of this year.

My older sister who lives in Calgary stated that from the time her referral went out to the time of her surgery it was 3 year and 7 months of a wait.

Not sure about RD, the girls from Edmonton will have better answers for you.

Michelle, don't give up !! You are not alone. Talk here, keep yourself busy with doing as much research as possible. It will work for you.

Talk soon

Lori

I had my first appointment there in April, got the go ahead from my surgeon on August 12...I met with the nurse August 30 and she told me all that wad left was meeting with the anesthetist, which I do his Thursday. They told me they fully expect my surgery to happen this year still. I do think that some if it depends on the surgeon...on on the nurses told me that my surgeons patients have been struggling, and that it was good that I was doing so well. Maybe your surgeon is more booked up the mine?  Don't give up though, I can relate to how you're feeling. You've worked hard to get where you are, just a little more patience!
