New and from Alberta!*
Hello everyone. I am new on OH and stumbled upon this forum! How exciting for me I am off to Medicine Hat tomorrow morning to meet the Bariatric Specially Clinic Team. I am scared to death for some reason and have butterflies fluttering around my tummy like crazy! not too sure why but I think cause I have no idea what to expect. I hear a lot of posts about a Dr. Nohr...spell??? but I have an appointment I think with Doctor Adeel Azam this is what my lab work and EKG paper said.. If anyone could share your story with me or give me an idea of what to expect tomorrow that would be great!
about me: I am 28 year old 300 pound mom of two little boys. I am married and I have been overweight all my life and finally I had enough of loosing weight and gaining it back. I have tried many things over the years mostly FAD diets but this was I feel might be the best for me... scared yes... excited yes. And I still don't even know if I am getting the surgery. But I am happy to have some support here!
THANKS :)
I had lap rny done by Dr Nohr back in Nov 2011. I was 270 lbs and almost 18 months later I am 150 lbs and holding. The surgery itself went well. Dr Nohr and the Med Hat hospital staff were great. I've had no complications so far. At the end of June, I am planning to have a panni surgery done by Dr Nohr to get rid of my hangy belly. I'm terrified and excited at the same time about this surgery. Ugh! the wls was a great decision for me. I should have done it at your age. I am 42 now with a hubby and two boys. All is great!
Good luck tomorrow. I hope you continue posting and tell us how the process goes now with the new clinic.

I read the article you attached..... it sounds more like a instrument failure more than doctor failure......... but I would not worry. Unfortunately all doctors are human and all have made mistakes before. Any and all surgeries have risks
I actually would applaud this doctor for admitting fault with the surgery, as there are not a lot of doctors that would admit it.
You will have a great experience with the clinic I'm sure
Yay! You have taken the first step! I know wait times can be really long. The one thing I did was add myself to cancelation list both for my consult and my surgery, and it really sped the process up with Dr. Nohr, so maybe the clinic you are going thru has a similar list?

I am not sure if Dr. Nohr is involved with the new bariatric clinic in Medicine Hat. That is something you could always ask down the road. I think working on lifestyle changes now is a good thing and will only help you with your weight loss journey, whether you have surgery or not. Good luck and keep us posted. You could always phone Dr. Carl Nohr's office and find out if he is a surgeon for this clinic or if he is on his own.

Well isn't that interesting. Dr. Nohr is such a great surgeon. I thought this program would add the post care that was a little lacking with him. Good to know. I would still highly recommend him though. He's been doing the rny surgery for years and has a ton of experience under his belt. But that's your call. There are certainly benefits with going through the new bariatric clinic as well. You can never have too much education and assistance when it comes to successful weight loss.
