New member, don't know where to start

I'm new to this site, and actually found it while browsing google for lap band surgeries.

Curious how everyone got started on their journey's, and if insurance covered it?

I suffer from sever depression and I feel like my weight has contributed a great amount to it.

I just want to be happy again! I don't know how to approach my doctor with questions regarding it, or what more to do.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am not sure where you are located, but there are several options, there is a Clinic in Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer and a few others, but they all start with a referral from your family doctor.

There are guideline you need to meet to get into the programs, you can google them depending on what clinic you want to get into.

I can advise that you will need to deal with the depression first, they will most likely not offer you any surgical options until that is being treated.

Thank you for the info.

I found one in Calgary but none in Edmonton.

I am dealing with my depression, I have been on medication for it for over 6 months.

Hi, welcome! I am in Calgary, but had my RNY done in Med Hat with Dr. Nohr. I asked my family dr here in Calgary about weight loss options, and surgery was an option. I went home and googled clinics and doctors in Alberta, and decided on Dr. Nohr in Medicine Hat, then my family dr sent over a referral. And from there it was just a matter of waiting for my consultation appointment, and then the surgery date... I was on their cancelation list so mine was a little faster then waiting for the original dates they booked. From start to fini**** look about a year and half. I honestly dont know if being on anti depression medication would delay the process for you, but ask your Dr about it. Good luck!
