And look how fabulously you're doing! If you'd stayed local you'd still be waiting around to see if you qualify for surgery, then waiting more...

Btw - I need just 1800 more airmiles to pay for our next trip to Honolulu. Segway on Waikiki Beach - here I come!

I think I need to find some resources here in Calgary. I think I will call health link and see what they have to offer. I don't really have my own Dr., those are hard to come by so I visit clinics.

Health Link should help you get hooked up with a doctor for basic ongoing lab work. Any doctor can give you a referral to a dietitian if you need one, but the basics of post op eating are pretty simple:

Keep up your water intake (if it'll go through a straw it's water)
Protein = your current weight times .37
Fibre - work toward 20 grams or more per day (veggies, fruit, whole grains)
Skip recreational sugar, alcohol, fruit juices, pop and processed crap carbs
Supplements - I take a prenatal gelcap multi, extra vitamin D and cal-mag citrate. Any doctor can order blood work to see if you need anything else.

Some go low carb, but it isn't necessary and the constipation that goes with low carb eating is SO not fun. (And dietitians really prefer that you eat a balanced diet) It's easier at first (but not required by any means) to get some of your protein through shakes or whey protein added to something you're having anyway, like coffee.

If you're struggling, ask for a referral to a Registered Dietitian. The 2 I've dealt with have been fabulous.

You'll find that after awhile you don't feel all "post op diet - eat like an oddball" anymore. It just becomes the way you eat - small portions, real food, minimal crap.

I am hitting the losers bench on the 18th so don't have experience with followup just yet, however, I really do suggest finding yourself a family doc that you get to know, gets to know you and you can trust.  I have a great family doc that is supportive of my surgery choice and she is taking new patients.  Message me if you would like the contact info.

I am having revision surgery with Dr.Aceves March 22. I had my lapband placed in Mexico as well.  :)

I went to Mexicali with Dr. Aceves a year ago Feb 6/12. I work near Mayfield Inn and currently live in Morinville. I would be interested in coffee meet ups :)

Hi Kelly Anne

How are you? Good to hear from you and see how well you are doing. I am at work at 10 on Monday, so unfortunately can't come but anytime you schedule at Skyview after 5 let me know it easy for me to get to.

Have a great day

Hi, I'm getting my RNY with Dr Aceves next month in Mexicali. Support is so important and I've been lucky having met Kelly-Anne on OH, being part of the Edmonton Bariatric Patients Peer support group ( who although some don't agree with my decision to leave the province are still supportive ), and my GP is supportive as well. I'm going alone to Mexicali but I don't feel like I'll be alone because everybody is a Facebook post or text away, and when I get home all those who have gone before me on this journey are there.

I think those of us who choose to go elsewhere for whatever reason need to stop being ashamed of both our WLS and our choice to pay for it ourselves and "skip the cue". It's the same journey and we can make it easier for each other when we support each other.
