Panni
My brother had his RNY with Dr. Nohr a few years ago. He was initially told that the panni isn't covered by AB Health, which is a total lie. When my brother consulted with Nohr last year about the panni, he essentially was booted from his office. Nohr said it was an unnecessary elective procedure. So, my brother got a consult with Dr. Jonathan Toy in Edmonton in December of last year and had his panni/tummy tuck, and lipo at the end of January. Dr. Toy is the plastic surgeon who is associated with the Edmonton Adult Bariatric clinic and specialized in contouring for weight loss surgery patients. You may want to consider getting a referral to him. Your GP can do that if Nohr won't.
Cheers!

Very interesting...because I seen Dr. Nohr yesterday and he has offered to do my panni (Fleur de Lis) and it is covered by AHC. I am nervous about recovery, not so much the scars. He figures there is about 3 lbs that will be removed. Did your brother have a small panni? Maybe Dr. Nohr thought it was too small to cause issues? I have no idea otherwise. He was very cordial with me and said he would be happy to do mine. I have picked a date the end of June. If I don't scare myself out of it first...

Fleur de Lis tummy tucks are not covered by AHS so if Dr. Nohr is willing to do it for only the panni fee covered by AHS you are in luck. Dr Toy is wonderful but it is a $6500 fee for having the Fleur de Lis with lipo done. I've seen him and had a quote done but haven't decided when I want or am able to get it done. I wish someone would do mine for free. Having only an estimated 3 pounds of skin is also awesome.
Good Luck.

Well, it's interesting that Dr. Nohr seems to be picking and choosing who he gives the panni to. Maybe Nohr knew that my brother needed more than he could provided and responded accordingly. In any case, we'll never know. I just find it interesting that the totally unnecessary panni was instantly approved by the plastic surgeon.
Something you might want to keep in mind as you consider plastics is do you want your panni to be done by a general surgeon or a plastic/reconstructive surgeon. Both are covererd by Alberta Health. Who is going to give you the best results? How many has Nohr done? Do they look good? Those are some questions to ask.
For me, I've been referred to Dr. Toy who is a specialist and deals with many weight loss surgery patients from the Edmonton Weight Wise clinic. With having lost over 230lbs, I can't afford to have my plastics messed up particularly when it's going to cost me big bucks. in excess of $10K for the first part (panni, tummy tuck, thighs) and then who knows for the upper part (chest, arms), and not even sure about a LBL after that. I'm going to stop thinking about it now!
Cheers!

Alex,
Dr Toy will give you the best price he can for all your combined procedures. He is amazing at working the system by doing thighs, panni, tummy tuck, privates and butt including lipo as a lower body lift and then arms, chest, upper body together as well. I know my friend was a girl but basically he was fixing everything on her and quoted her 23 grand and it would be done in 2 separate surgeries. It's great that he can reconstruct and mold our bodies, he is very gifted.
Some days I;m very consumed with the need to have it done and then other days it's not a big deal, kinda like a war scar it reminds me of what I have done and how far I have come. I'm also not so lucky to be olny dealing with 3 pounds of excess skin mine is more of an estimated area of 10 pounds but oh well I'll wait it out and get the best results possible.
Congrats on working your new rny, your weight lose has been amazing.
Sorry for jacking your post gizzy :)

I am somewhat excited but scared at the same time. It's such a large cut. I hope I heal well and have no complications. I guess fat really does not weigh as much as you'd think - go figure - as I definitely have a few handfuls of skin and fat that need to go. 3 lbs is okay. It will be nice to be gone but 200+ staples - ugh...

I booked my appointment today for April 5 with dr Nohr to ask about panni. Maybe I can book mine end of June and we can be room mates!

I know Dr. Nohr has done a lot of pannis over the years. People I have talked to who have had them done seem to be happy with his work. I just can't spend money out of pocket on plastics. All I will ever have done is the panni. I trust Dr. Nohr. He has experience with the wls person's post op stomach. I don't believe he does substandard work at all but maybe since he doesn't do the additional lipo, it won't be as perfect as a plastic surgeon's work. I am okay with that. He has brought me this far with success, I trust him to finish off things with success as well.
This Dr. Toy seems like a great choice though since he has knowledge of the wls post body as well as a specialty in plastics. From what I hear he is hard to get into if you didn't go through the Weight Wise program.
Anyways, good luck with all your future planned reconstructive surgeries. May you heal well! :-)
