Weight expectations

I talked to my dietitian today and I told her my personal weight goal is 175 lbs.

I am 5' 6" and a medium frame. I don't care how long it takes me but she seems

to think this is a unrealistic goal. If I'm eating what I'm suppose too and exercising appropriately

then I think she is wrong. I'm doing everything they are asking but I was told before the surgery that I should

expect to lose around 100 lbs which would take me to around 230 lbs.

When I was 19 and before I started gaining weight I was approx 155 lbs. This was a healthy weight for me.

I don't expect to lose that much but I don't think 175 lbs is out of the realm.

Am I out to lunch?

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Thanks

no your not.

my nurst/dietician told me the same thing in the beginning.  I was devastated as my infertility doctor said i needed a lower number to even dream of getting pregnant post op.  I was disheartened and didnt go back to the clinic for 2 months (instead of the following month). During that time i did my research and learned that many people lost more than their EWL given by their nutritionists.....

Weight lost depends on the type of surgery with VSG and RNY leading the results in most weight lost....RNY can lose faster but over time VSG can be equal in weight lost.

Do your research on the boards on here, read stories....read around....and make your choice....and when you lose your weight...you can go back to your dietician and say Nyah Nyah Nyah lol

heres a great story from the VSG boards

They go by an over all average statical which states vsg will lose 30 % of there extra weight and rny is 40% of their excess weight. It all depends on the person and their level of dedication. We are all different and will lose different amounts of weight. I was told at 180 pounds to stop losing weight cause I've reached my projected weight lose goal and I went on to take off 30 more pound and have been pretty much maintaining it. I do toggle with about 3 pounds up and down. I figured when my body was ready to stop it would.

Don't be discouraged just take each day as it comes and each pound lose as it comes.

Kee.

You can either believe it will happen.....or believe it won't.  Both are self fulfilled prophesies. For Me it has happened.  My Surgery was September 21/2010

I was told the exact same thing.

I'm a little heavier than you and was completely crushed when I was told I would only lose about 100 lbs. But I did a lot of research and asked a lot of questions and I am so determined to lose more than that.
I know that if I work hard and exercise and eat the way I need to that I can do it!

Just have to keep a positive attitude!

Good luck!

Thanks for your encouragement.

I was very down yesterday but I"m determined to not focus on any number....if I eat a healthy and balanced diet making

wise food choices plus exercise appropriately then I'm sure my body will find its right weight.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my questions\uncertainties ....it lifted my spirits.

I was told that I would be doing exceptionally well if I lost 100 pound at the one year point and not to expect anything else. Well, I will be 6 months on the 2nd and I am down 119 pounds. I think that the programs in Alberta are still so new they really don't have the experience to go by anything but the statistics. Work your plan, work your sleeve/band, and your body will work for you.

Thanks. Wow 119 in 6 months is amazing. I've lost just about 70 in 3 months....but I consider counting from the beginning of my liquid diet 3 weeks prior to my surgery. From my surgery I've lost around 52 pounds. But all things considering I may hit 100 lbs before my 1 year is up.To me its important to change my eating habits making them ever lasting lifestyle changes and exercising to reach my bodies fitness potential. I'm sure my body will change accordingly to this and look great.

They generally consider that losing 30% of your original weight or 60% of your excess weight to be very good long term results. Going by what I weighed when I started my preop diet, figured either way, that puts me at about 189.

That doesn't mean I can't work harder and be above average, right? To heck with "very good" I intend to be awesome.

Mine said I'd lose around 80 pounds by 18 months post op. my starting weight was 255 lbs. I'm currently 12 months post op and 122 lbs. I've lost 133 lbs! I'm so happy she was wrong, but also happy my expectations were not set too high either. So it's been a nice surprise! I bet you will have no trouble reaching your goal!
