Anyone out there who did their wls in mexico want to answer a few questions?
I am in Calgary and I gave up on the system here. Made my mind up and am heading down to MX for my sleeve on April 1st. Could not be happier of the decision made. Having it done by Dr. Garcia at Mi Hospital. Did research into the tax thing, and yes you can claim on income tax as a medical expense. You can also claim the price of the flight too.
I went ahead and booked with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the Obesity Care Clinic in Tijuana.
I weighed 321lbs and they recommended the Gastric Sleeve. Due to my BMI I began a diet on Jan 25th that consisted of the following:
- Protein shake for breakfast
- veggie snack
- Protein shake and a green salad for lunch
- veggie snack
- Protein shake, chicken breast and greens for dinner
I did this from Jan 25th to Feb 18th the day before my surgery. I lost 22lbs before my surgery.
I flew from YYC to San Deigo where we were picked up, driven over to Mexico, and stayed at a very nice Marriott. The OCC paid for my food which was broth, tea and popsicles. They paid 50% of my companions food. They paid for the hotels and shuttles as well.
My total cost all in CDN funds was $6700.
I had a fantastic experience, and during recovery nothing hurts. Everything is very easy and by far the best decision I have ever made. I have now lost a total of 29lbs since Jan 25th.
I am very happy to support or help in anyway. I just learned I can expense back to AHC and get around $2200 back, plus you can expense on income taxes as well.
