Medicine Hat

Having first consult February 14 wondering if anyone could tell me about the doctor(s) who perform the surgery and what are wait times like? Thanks

It's just Dr. Nohr in Medicine Hat. I understand that he is booking into the first quarter of 2014, but his appointments get moved forward as things change in his surgical roster.  

Should have also said that Dr. Nohr is a very skilled surgeon who has a tremendous amount of experience with RNY.  He only recently started doing VSG as well.  

Dr. Nohr is great. He is very soft spoken and will expect you to have some questions ready to ask him at the appointment. He is a very good surgeon and knows his stuff. Make sure to do some research beforehand. He recommends you read weight loss surgery for dummies. I highly recommend him.

It's been a bit since I went through the process. You will get your surgery date at this initial appointment. Make sure to ask the girls at the front desk to add your name to the cancellation list. I ended up getting a phone call for surgery due to a cancellation over a year early this way.

Thank you for the responses. I am surprised I will be given a surgery date at first consult. The Medicine Hat news reported Friday they just opened their first bariatric clinic there. Dr Adam is behind the clinic and he' the one requested all blood work for me. The clinic hopes to be able to provide more surgeries.

Well that's good news about a bariatric clinic opening.  Much needed for southern Alberta area and since so many from SK go to Med Hat too.  I will have to ask Dr. Nohr about it at my follow-up appointment next month.

I did not have to provide bloodwor****il a few weeks before my surgery.

Now that I have read the article, it looks like the process has changed a lot since I had my surgery.  All a good thing!  My journey to getting surgery with Dr. Nohr will probably differ from yours.  I will be interested to learn about your journey and what you all have to do from this point to your surgery date and beyond.  Good luck and keep us posted.

I went to med hat for my Rny exactly one year ago today with dr. Nohr ... I highly recommend him! 

That's good to hear. How long did the process take from start to finish?

You know what is so funny is, in march 2011 my dr sent my referral, and my consultation was booked for feb 13 2013!!! So I would have still been waiting just to meet him! But I called his office to see if I could get in sooner, and their was a cancelation for April, a couple weeks after my referral was sent, then after the nutrition class and meeting him, I went right I their short notice cancelation wait list,  got a call early jan 2012 asking if I wanted the jan 23 opening, and I took it. So from my referral to OR date it took 10 months. I posted my before and now pictures for my 1 year anni, and I think thank goodness I asked to be on the cancelation list, so that I can already be at this point, rather then still waiting to meet him.
