we leave Grande Prairie on Sunday, PAC on monday, weigh in Tuesday and Surgery is Wednesday January 9th

I have to work the rest of the week so that will help pass the time...
everytime I let my mind linger on this I get a kind of sinking pit feeling in my stomach.
i know in my head i'm ready...but just scary...ya know?

Hi Teenuh, Exciting! It is an amazing change!!! Happy new year to you!

Hmm. Bring slippers to walk in the hospital - walking and GasX strips help with the gas bloat after (they inflate your abdominal cavity with air to do the surgery) and this helps you feel more comfortable after. I brought some ear plugs that were joined with a string so I could rest well at the hospital - it's pretty noisy at the Royal Alex and you usually share rooms even if you have private room insurance.

Keep on top of your pain meds, take in lots of protein to heal quickly and sip sip your fluids.

You can buy some nice tiny serving dishes to use after and research some recipes of blended things, get some protein powder that you can mix into your first blended foods and soups. I used to put chocolate protein powder in Greek yogurt and also pudding, just to get in my requirement.

Good luck, it changed my life - best decision I have ever made.  ~Mtrai

Surgery VSG Oct.8 2010. 23pds lost pre-op. I am 5'6" tall. Feeling amazing!

Bring a good book or two, and relax.

I remember how nervous I was, but it went very smooth.
Before you know it you will be resting at home an on the losers bench

Basically the 3 hr thing is one hour with the nurse explaining the procedure for surgery, booking your PAC day, how to care for incisions after surgery, touching on plastic surgery information etc.
second part is the dietician aspect, what to eat after surgery, what to eat while your still in the hospital, how long to stay on certain food, when to switch, etc and what to eat long term
third hour is the psycologist part, how to deal with questions about surgery, what to say to people, how things are going to make you feel etc etc...

tons of info

When you get your call for surgery, then you have to call and book your PAC yourself.
they do it close to your surgery...my PAC is monday, surgery on Wednesday
I will find out monday night the time i have to be at the hospital wednesday.

I was never given a pre op diet, just nothing after midnight the night before.
