one more week
getting increasingly nervous, excited and terrified....
any last minute advice?
we leave Grande Prairie on Sunday, PAC on monday, weigh in Tuesday and Surgery is Wednesday January 9th
I have to work the rest of the week so that will help pass the time...
everytime I let my mind linger on this I get a kind of sinking pit feeling in my stomach.
i know in my head i'm ready...but just scary...ya know?
Hi Teenuh, Exciting! It is an amazing change!!! Happy new year to you!
Hmm. Bring slippers to walk in the hospital - walking and GasX strips help with the gas bloat after (they inflate your abdominal cavity with air to do the surgery) and this helps you feel more comfortable after. I brought some ear plugs that were joined with a string so I could rest well at the hospital - it's pretty noisy at the Royal Alex and you usually share rooms even if you have private room insurance.
Keep on top of your pain meds, take in lots of protein to heal quickly and sip sip your fluids.
You can buy some nice tiny serving dishes to use after and research some recipes of blended things, get some protein powder that you can mix into your first blended foods and soups. I used to put chocolate protein powder in Greek yogurt and also pudding, just to get in my requirement.
Good luck, it changed my life - best decision I have ever made. ~Mtrai
thanks guys...i have lots of different protein powders and cups etc...i started collecting last summer lol
my magic bullet is my favorite by far for making shakes
i'm doing last minute things around the house now, tidying, extra laundry, cleaning and purging of stuff....mostly packed the suitcase for hubby and I next week....
really feel like i'm having a mourning session of things and things i know i'll totally be doing afterwards but just dumb stuff like...my last 4 days of my elliptical (i love my elliptical time first thing in the morning), last baths, last chance to go swimming (at the hotel before surgery lol), last movie at the theatre....had to make sure we seen The Hobbit lol, just...ya...dumb stuff lol
Your time will be here and gone before you know it try to relax and not be so nervious it will be awesome to finally hear how your new life will be as well , im sure your husband is also excited for you i bet hes actually as nervious as you are , i too will be in edmonton the 11th for my 3 hour surgery class so i will be thinking about you on the 9th , take care and drive safe best to you in 2013
i think your gonna do fine i bet your more excited then you even realize thats why the nerves are kicking in thank You for the advice i will bring paper and a pen i was rather confused on why this class is 3 hours long what possible stuff do they go over that really hasnt been said , Dr Davey is doing my surgery a Rny he told me hopefully the end of jan but his nurse said he says this to all his patients im just keeping my fingers crossed it will be soon after this class on the 11 then i have to see to another class of maintaining on the 16th not sure what both of these are about i guess i will find out soon enough
Basically the 3 hr thing is one hour with the nurse explaining the procedure for surgery, booking your PAC day, how to care for incisions after surgery, touching on plastic surgery information etc.
second part is the dietician aspect, what to eat after surgery, what to eat while your still in the hospital, how long to stay on certain food, when to switch, etc and what to eat long term
third hour is the psycologist part, how to deal with questions about surgery, what to say to people, how things are going to make you feel etc etc...
tons of info
When you get your call for surgery, then you have to call and book your PAC yourself.
they do it close to your surgery...my PAC is monday, surgery on Wednesday
I will find out monday night the time i have to be at the hospital wednesday.
I was never given a pre op diet, just nothing after midnight the night before.
