It is the best product by far that I have found. I too have been looking and they said they can't get the vanilla into stock at Costco. I did find in on Amazon but they were unable to deliver to Canada at that point.......I'm gonna check that out later. Sure would be alot easier to find it in Edmonton though.
Are they supposed to be thick and I just don't get the joy? Have I bought bad batches? (I've bought them a couple of times - same nasty deal each time)

I do think they may be a little thicker than some shakes, but I wouldn't put them in the gunky thick category. I know Your Fred is quite particular though, so hard to say if your purchases were just old or needed more shaking. Some of my batches did require more shaking! Are you in Calgary? If so, I could drop a couple 'good' ones off for Fred to try again.

The texture of the ones I got was weird. I had to cut the entire top off and it would kinda sploop into the glass, holding enough of the shape of the container to see seam lines.
I got cases of the shakes a couple of times. The first case was ok - poured just fine - not especially exciting flavour wise, but not awful. The second and third cases were that weird texture, so I've been too chicken to try them again.

That level of thickness is way off. I would describe the right consistency as identical to 2% chocolate milk. And most folks say the taste is almost identical. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of chocolate flavored drinks, so that's why I would live to get my hands on some vanilla!

I seriously love the protein amount in those and the price is good.
To give yourself a change, Pure Protein shakes are pretty decent, although lower in protein that the ones available in the US, the ones here have 21 grams of protein and 100 calories in the vanilla and they taste reasonable. (And no fussing from Mr Picky) I find them at Walmart and SuperStore in 4-packs.
If you can afford the calories I really like Diabetic Boost - especially the vanilla, which I heat up, then make a cup of strong coffee or tea (spiced chai or Earl Grey) into. (We use a Keurig) It makes a delicious latte at 190 calories and 16g protein. I find it quite filling, too, and can easily last until lunch if I have that for breakfast.
I don't recommend the ever popular (snork) Ensure for 2 reasons. 1. It's way too low in protein for the calories, and 2. I can't get the stupid lids off! Why anyone would make a meal replacement that is targeted toward thie elderly and nutritionally/physically compromised and put it in a bottle that close to impossible to open is beyond me.

Occasionally, I add a little PB2 and/or a quarter of a banana. Thanks for the Pure Protein vanilla tip. My local Walmart didn't have any but are ordering it in for me to try :). At 100 cals for 21 grams of protein, I'm thinking I could drink 1.5 and get the same amount of protein and cals as with the Premier brand. A whole lot more expensive though, so it's something I will likely use sparingly if it works out :).
