Provincial coverage?

I just had an emergency follow up this week with Weight Wise after being discharged from the clinic back in April and I asked about qualifications after seeing a comment to you that there isn't really any qualifications anymore and as it has ben over 2 years since I started with the clinic I know things would have changed. I was told by the staff and nurses there that it is easier to get into the program now with less wait time but the surgicial list of qualifications is longer and tighter than ever. The percent ratio of people getting surgery has increased due to them having more Doctors and staff then before but it's not a guarantee when you walk through there doors that you are getting surgery, lots of people walk out there with a new outlook but not surgery.

Also you can go on the Alberta Health Services website and search weight wise where it will give you a segment on Weight Wise and an form you can take to your doctor to have filled out. I also comment before about finding out things about have your blood work done and ultra sounds and things and someone said oh no don't worry about it well sure they do some things at the clinic but if you go in armed with knowing you have comorbilities it's a lot more helpful. Anyway I do wish you luck and I do hope the web page will help you.

If you can't get what you need/want through your provincial health plan you may need to consider going self-pay. That's what I ended up doing and it was the best decision I've ever made.

Being approved into the program to be considered for surgery at Weight wise is based on the EOSS (edmonton obesity staging system),....this doesnt determine which surgery, but its their guideline for being approved for surgery in general.
Your surgeon will ask you which surgery you are considering and ask you why you chose that.
