The wait is over :) I have a date!!!!  Oct 23rd I got the call yesterday from Dr.Karmali's office as she was telling me all the details I couldnt stop crying!! Im so excited.  Is there anyone else having surgery the same date?? I was off track for a little while and had 6lbs put back on since my last appointment in June but im very happy to say im back on track with those 6 pounds plus more gone :)
I have to do a 3 week pre liquid diet. Im can have 4 ensure a day and 4 cups of milk did anyone else have a pre liquid diet like this or similar? I was just wondering if you did do you know which ensure i am supposed to be drinking? There are 3 or 4 different ones diabetic, high calorie, regular, high protein....
Thanks

I waited over 2 years just to get into the program but that was because of my family doctor. He sent in my referral with missing info on it and when they sent it back he didn't contact me.  My very first appointment was in January 2012 I'm not from Edmonton so each visit Made to the clinic they grouped a lot of appointments together which was really great. I did have to get a scope and I am having gastric bypass :) I don't mind the questions just hope I can help.

Congrats on getting your surgery date!!

You are supposed to have the High Protein ensure.  Watch where you buy it.  It is usually on sale at least somewhere.  I found the best prices at Wal-Mart and SuperStore.

Hi, My first appointment was in January and my last one was June then I just had to wait for my surgery call :)  I had been journaling for along time before my first appointment as well as using a pedometer and I had at least 6 modules completed.  It went really fast until my last appointment in June.....then the wait for the surgery call was horrible.  But its FINALLY here :)  I cant even explain how excited I am.  You will love the people at the clinic they are awesome :) A pleasure to talk with.
Good-Luck!

CONGRATS!!!!!  how awesome !!  I have my first appointment with Dr. Karmali on Oct. 14th.  I was just wondering how did it take for you to get your surgery date from your first appt. with Dr Karmali.  I am wondering because I drive school bus and they really dont want us taking time off from now until Christmas.  I mean if I have to I have to but, Im kind of hoping I dont get a date until after the new year or just before Christmas.

Anne-Marie, like the other lady said it is an AMAZING program.  You are going to love it .....there is so much support.  I have never heard of another program even close to Weigh Wise.  It will go by fast.  I just got my appointment with the surgeon last week.  My first appointment at the clinic was in the begining of May and so it has taken about four months to get into the surgeon.  My only advice is do everything they recommend.  Have you started your modules yet?

So excited for you!  I just had gastric by-pass by Dr. Karmali on September 18, 2012.  I've had a bit o an infection but I am healing and home care has been exceptional!

I was on a two week pre-surgery liquid diet of Ensure Protein.  I could also have a cup of milk, and calorie free drinks like Crystal Lite and diet iced tea.  As well, my dietician recommended that I could also have clear broth which I really liked at night.  I would freeze 3 bottles of Ensure individually in small plastic containers and enjoyed them more as a "dessert" that way than just a drink.  The two weeks went by very fast.

The biggest struggle now for me two weeks post-op is going from blended and pureed foods every hour to more soft foods less frequently.  I overdid it last night with a couple bites of baked chicken and a bit of potatoes and gravy.  It did not sit well all night.  I will try an egg with a bit of toast this morning and see how that goes.  I guess we learn from our mistakes!!

I have had dumping syndrome a few times.  I think the first time was because I had a bit of a cough and I took a teaspoone of cough medicine not realizing how much sugar was in it!  The other few times have been drinking too close to meal times.  That is a hard one as I seem to be more thirsty now and it's hard when you are struggling with what you can and can't eat.  Trial and error I assume.

Good luck to you and I hope all goes smoothly.  No matter the struggle with food, pain, or whatever associated with this, in the long run, your health is the bottom line and the surgery was/is the best decision I have ever made in my life.
