Hey everyone!!

I am new here, just signed up today! My surgery was supposed to be Nov 2013 but I got a call today and there was a surgery spot open Oct 1....18 days away!

All of a sudden I am scared, and anxious, and nervous, and excited, and...

I am in Sask but having the surgery in Mediciane Hat Alberta with Dr Nohr

Anyone have any advice?

Anyone have Dr Nohr??

Hi!  Your story sounds very similar to mine.  My surgery was suppose to be Dec 2012 and I ended up having surgery Oct 2011 due to a cancellation.  I had about a months notice.  I know well the feelings and emotions running through you now.  But you are in great hands.  I can't say enough about Dr. Nohr.  He may be quiet but he knows exactly what he is doing and does it successfully.  I have had no complications.  I was lucky enough to have had my surgery done laproscopically.  The worst for me was having nothing to drin****il after the my leak test on day three.  I don't think my mouth has ever been dryer.  Be warned that the nurses will get you up to shower and walk quickly.  As much as you may not feel like it, it is for your benefit.  I felt like a new person after a shower.  You will have these plastic air filled things on your legs at night.  They are annoying and hot, but again for your benefit.  Bring some slippers, a robe, a book and chapstick.  I also had my iphone with me to play games.  Take advantage of the morphine and gravol they give you.  You will get heperin needles in your stomach three times a day while in the hospital to prevent blood clots.  I seen Dr. Nohr maybe twice in the hospital very quickly.  He's a busy guy.  I went in on a Monday and was released the next Friday.  So 5 days.
Then about 6-8 weeks later you will have to have a gastroscopy by Dr. Nohr.  It's a peice of cake.  I think I was in the hospital a total of 1 hour.  I don't remember a thing and he even dialated my stoma a bit.
This surgery was the best thing I have ever done for myself.  I am down 114 lbs now and feeling great!

Thanks for the advice! I will make sure and pack the recommended items!
I will not be able to enjoy the morphine as I have developed a sensitivity to it which I found out right after my hysterectomy in 2011 So hopefully something else works just as well :)

The leg things being hot is not going to be fun, since my last surgery I do not handle hot very well lol hopefully they can find a fan for me to use if needed! I do remember having very dry lips etc so thanks for the reminder for chapstick!!

Do Nohr seemed very nice when I met with him in April for my consult! I still cannot beleive I am going in a mere 5 months later! I have only read and heard great things so far which is comforting!

Thanks for all the words of wisdom and support! I will be keeping in touch!
