surgeons for person with high bmi ?
DS on 08/11/12
I just LOVE when our provincial governments decide to exclude people because their BMI is too high. DUH...that is why we need bariatric surgery. Are you able to consider self pay? There are some really great surgeons in mexico and brazil who do the DS, which is what you might want to consider given your BMI.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Hello
I started at the WW clininc In Edmonton in April..... seen everyone so far except the surgeon (hoping to see him in Nov/12 at latest)
To answer you question about Dr Modi..... I have seen her twice and go for a third time next week..... I was told she will do the surgery referral but that has yet to happen lol
So far the first vist we talked about medical history, how I like the program, medications, she will order more tests if she feels you need them ( I did not)...... then she said she would see me in one month again and then do a refferral...... that was 2.5 months ago...... saw her again 2.5 months ago she was fine with giving me a referal to the surgeon but needed the nurse, dietician, and physcologist to write that they agreed also (which they forgot to do I guess)...... Dr Modi said I was to see her in 4 weeks for a referal (end of Aug) and would get to see the surgeon in Oct......but the front desk would not let me book with her until her next opening which was 2.5 months away ( I was pissed) ...... I talked with my nurse and Dr modi's nurse and they apparently talked to her and it was a big misunderstanding..... so I got booked for 2.5 months away..... up kinda sucks ..... so instead of seeing the surgeon in Oct I now get to see Dr Modi again
I have kinda got the run around there I feel..... my psycologist was just a fill in for a mat leave, so she left and the original girl returned with is fine cause I like her better, but then my Nurse quit before I could get a sign off for surgery and took the last 2 months to get into see a new nurse..... So I am feeling frustrated lately which is making it hard to follow my eating plan
But as for Dr Modi she was awesome..... I really liked her and actually connected with her the most of anyone at the clinic so far

I started at 420 in 2008 and was 398 2009 when i hit WW program.. I was 328 when i was RNY bound 2010.. So my bmi was very high and Im presently 155 give or take.. I know that Winnipeg has a program that is WW based and Ontario also has a similar program.. Have faith .. keep checking and dont take NO..

It would be worth your while to explore other options. I don't know how high of BMI Dr Aceves will accept, but it's worth asking.
That said, before you make the decision for surgery you need to educate yourself about what life is like after surgery. Too many people see it as a magic bullet that will solve the weight issue while allowing them to carry on with their current lifestyle. Those are the people whose surgeries "fail."
The ones who succeed are the ones that have counted the cost and are prepared to completely change the way they relate to food, change how they cope with stress and other eating triggers, take responsibility for their nutrition and hydration (a tricky one - especially for the first month or 2) and have a plan for social eating situations.
Life after WLS can be wonderful, but it also has its challenges.
