Hi there everyone ,
I live in Fort Saskatchewan and am looking for a weight loss buddy to chat with and share the ups and downs... (mostly ups emotionally, and downs with weight)...
I am 10 days post op and feeling a bit lonely, even though I am an up beat woman sitting at home recovering its boring and would just love to be able to find someone who is going through this journey as well to share...
Thank you all for your time to read this request.
Have a fantastic day!

Hi  there

I am having surgery in Edmmonton Aug 29th.  Where was your surgery.  Sorry I can't give you any advice for post op yet, but would love to hear how you're doing.   Did you have to go on a pre op liquid diet. Apparently I don't have to. I am nervous about the surgery.  I just finished reading a bunch of concerns on the awful protein shakes and hoping I'l find something that will work for me.

Take care

Thanks, it felt like a long wait.   My first visit to Edmonton was in March of 2011.  I went to several modules, appt with nut, nurse, Dr Modi and one vist with phychiatrist and now in April  the Surgeon.  I guess I probably made about 10 trips in all to Edmonton, with a couple being overnight.  The plane left Wpg 5:30 am and returned 10:30 pm so I would see everyone in one day.  I was told of my surgery date in May sometime.

I am sure looking forward to being done especially the first month.

Take care
Alvina

Which surgery will you be having, Alvina?

Not all of the protein shakes are awful. I don't mind the Pure Protein ones - I find them in packets of 4 at Super Store and WalMart. The BodyLogix ones from Shopper's Drug Mark are also not bad, although they have a slight aftertaste to me. For powder ones that are both easy to find and not bad taste wise, I quite like the Body Fortress ones from WalMart and the Iso Sensation ones I found at the health food store. (I like Chocolate Peanut Butter and Brazil Cafe)
There are some out there that are sweetened with Stevia. If you happen to like the stuff that's dandy, but it tastes nastily weedy to me. Luckily I have a friend that likes stevia and was quite happy to give it a new home.
I also like the Atkins Advantage shakes, but they "cost" 160 calories for only 15 grams of protein, so I choose to not drink them. (Pure Protein has 21g of protein for 110 calories)

Hi there

I will be having the RNY with Dr Davies at Royal Alexandra Hospital.  Are those packets of 4 protine powder or pre mixed.

I will check out the pure protein ones.  Thanks for the info.

Where do you live in Alberta?  My brother lives in Cochrane so I am flying to Edmonton on Aug 23, classes all day on the 24th and then surgery on the 29th.  I think I'll go visit them between so I don't have to sit in a hotel room by myself and worry!!

Congratulations on your sucess and look forward to hearing from you

The Iso Sensation and Body Fortress are both powders you mix with water, milk or almond milk. The Pure Protein, Body Logix and Atkins shakes are premade shakes you just open and drink.

I live in the north end of Edmonton.

Hi there,

Thanks again for the info.  I am not very familiar with Edmonton.  I always take a sky shuttle to the Best western plus and walk  over to the Royal Alexandra hospital for my appts.   I would love to meet for coffee if you're in the area.  There is a Tim Hortons attached to Best Western

Can you buy all of the powders and shakes at Super store or Walmart?

Thanks

Good morning Alvina
I had my surgery done through Dr. deGara at the Royal Alex on July 24th. mine was a revision surgery. I didn't have to do the pre op liquid other then the day before and the wonderful best of all Magnesium drink... yummy... NOT lol
I found a protein drink that I love and each glass gives you 25grams of protein. it's through Amyway and I got the vanilla icecream and I add frozen peaches as it mushes up and 1percent milk and it is soooo good...
I have a nurse who comes everyday to change my bandages and I am healing really nice. the gas and bowels need to be worked with but its coming...
I am just so excited at my progress
we can stay in touch and when you go in (where you going in and whose doing your surgery?) How are you finding your preop liquid diet?
I look forward to hearing from you
have a fantastic day!

Hii Midge

I am having surgery with Dr Davies at the same hospital. That protein drinks sounds good.  I'll try to get some.  Had you had surgery prior and why did you need a revision.

I fly to Edmonton Aug 23 and Aug 24, I go to the hospital for some classes.  Then I am free till Aug 28 and return to Edmonton for surgery on the 29th.

Where is Fort Sask,   I would love to stay in touch.

I was told that because my liver is not enlarged, I don't have to go through the preop liquid diet.  Maybe similar to yours,

I hope you have a great day and look forward to hearing from you
