I'm on day 5 of my liquid diet and I'm DYING!!!  Not because I want food in particular (although I did dream about pizza last night) but because I have never had the runs so bad in my life!  (sorry TMI)  Did anyone else experience this and if so, what did you do about it?  I pretty much slept the first 3 days as I was super lathargic and had 0 energy........I got desperate on Monday and had 2 tablespoons of peanut butter to see if that would boost my energy, no such luck and then I just felt guilty.......

Sigh, I know it's only 2 weeks and I just need to man (woman) up and get er done, but goodness, this is a lot harder than it sounded...........plus I'm super grumpy to boot.........

Encouragement and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, chastising will be accepted although not as helpful :oP

Call your dietitian and ask if there's a different shake you could be drinking. They don't want you going into surgery weakened by 2 weeks of diarrhea. If there aren't options for the shakes maybe try Imodium. First choice is to talk to your dietitian though. He/she is on your side.

Normally it's liquids in which means liquids out. I had diarrhea for 2 weeks after surgery and it was the worst I've ever had. I couldn't keep myself hydrated and was told that it's a normal occurance when dealing with a liquid diet. Also alfter surgery you will be weak and have lots of changes going on in your body as it tries to deal with less food, calories and hormone changes.

Good Luck.

Kee.

Hi, I have to do a 3 week pre liquid diet I tried the shakes ahead of time because I know I don't drink shakes well. Needless to say it was very bad. They are coming back up in my mouth. I hope your issue gets better as the days go by and would love it if you would share your experience as you go. I'm very nervous about the liquid diet I know it's only 3 weeks but it's going to be a very hard 3 weeks if I can't keep those shakes down. I was wondering if you have experimented at all with the shakes? Adding anything to them, freezing them, or anything you did that might be able to help me stomach them. Good luck and Thanks again for sharing

I agree with Kee, liquids in = liquids out, I only had to do 3 days of the liquid diet before my surgery and I had diarrhea as well.

To get through it I thought of it as a small step to get to my ultimate goal.  2+ years later I don't even think about the liquid diet anymore as it wasn't horrible.  I wasn't lethargic at the time and I remember keeping myself busy to try not to think of food and that helped a lot.  Maybe get out and do something fun with your friends instead of sleeping and letting yourself think about it.

Just think, soon enough you will have your surgery and think about how your life will benefit from the changed you!
