I got a date!! - July 13!! eek!
I got a call from the surgeon's office at the end of the day yesterday indicating they had a surgery date for me July 13 if I wanted it. So there it is, lap band booked for July 13! Eeek! I start my liquid diet tomorrow, so excited and sooooo nervous!! This will be an interesting Stampede, tons of stuff planned and a liquid diet!
I am in Calgary and my Dr. is Dr. Mitchell. I was actually really taken a back when they said July 13, as Dr. Mitchell said he was on vacation, but you know what? I'll take what I can get!
A little nervous about managing a liquid diet and Stampede as we have a ton of events we're taking part in, but I'll just have to keep that end goal in mind when the mini donuts start calling my name! :)

Hi Rae-lynne,
I'm in Calgary, so I can only speak to the program here. I was referred to the Weight Managemen Program in June of 2011 and received an initial inivitation to the orientation in January 2012. I took part in the 3 month program which finished at the end of April 2012 and then was part of the final selection for surgery (there are typically 150 patients in the program initially, however based on government funding only about 25-50 surgeries) There is a lot of criteria you have to meet to make it to surgery selection and even then you are not guaranteed surgery. I was fortunate enough to be selected in May and was scheduled to have my surgery last Friday. However, due to a computer outage with Alberta Health Services, my surgery has be re-scheduled for August 14, 2012.
Hopefully that helps, please feel free to ask me anymore questions and I'll do my best to answer them. I know that the programs in Red Deer and Edmonton work differently, but this is basically how the Calgary one works.
