laxative/softner

I'm using WalMart's Equate brand of stool softener (docusate sodium capsules) that run about $4 for 100. I'm on an all protein, all the time pre-op diet, so totally understand how you're feeling. I take 1 each morning and make sure I drink lots - works pretty well for me.

I see that most stool softners are in a capsule form. Since they have liquid in the capsule, they can't be broken apart. I am not sure if RNY people can digest these okay. Can we have capsules? Nowhere on the bottle does it say they are time released. But I wonder as the capsules are nice and small but hard as rock, yet they are a capsule. Hmmm??
I am off to buy prunes and some flax. Ugh...this is just brutal!

Look for Colace. It's the same stuff as the capsules but comes in drops. I didn't realize capsules might be a problem for you. I'm sorry.
You can also just bite the capsule. I've been told they don't taste nasty.
That's also something called Restoralax that I've heard works well.

Lots of water. Add Flax to your yogurt, colace is a softener take two a day (one am/one pm initially if you have to) HOT prune juice, sounds gross but is actually not bad. Once you figure out what works for you get into a routine with it. I'm a Flax and Hemp (1tsp of each) in my yogurt with my berries in the morning girl. Took me a while to figure this out....good luck! Talk to your pharmacist, they are an underutilized form of information. Watch out for laxatives as your body can become dependant on them!
