Just arrived home to Grande Prairie after spending the weekend in Edmonton...met with my team on friday and met the surgeon (Dr. Birch) today.
I was given the approval and go ahead for surgery!!

What was everyone elses wait time from approval to phone call?
or from phone call to surgery?

I go for the 3hr pre op class the end of next month, and after that i'm pretty much good to go for surgery.

I met with Dr Birch on March 20,2012 and am having surgery on June 12,2012. Exactly 3 months! What kind of surgery are you having? Do you have to do a liquid diet?

I'm having the sleeve and no pre op diet. I asked about it and he said he didnt think I would need it, I looked/sounded motivated and he didnt think there would be much of a benefit from it.
i'm supposed to continue to try and lose weight before surgery and go to the pre op class and thats about it...some paperwork from my family doc and continue with clinic visits

Hi. Live in GP too!
Got approval on Nov. 14 and reviewed the three different surgeries with Dr. Birch.
Saw him again Jan.16 to give him my decision (gastric bypass).
Had the 3 hr class on Feb. 24, phone call on March 9th and surgery on April 4th, 2012!
It's been 9 weeks and it's the best decision I've ever made. I feel better than I have in 20 years!

if your interested, we have GP and area support group via facebook (private group) we have occasional coffee dates, and clothing exchanges etc
if your interested PM me with your facebook email and i can add you as a friend and add you (we dont have to stay friends after if you dont want lol)

Hello,

I am from Grande Praire and I went to the doctor the other day thinking I would need to go to edmonton for the WW Program but he told me there is a new one that is in Grande Prairie, is this the one you went thru?

Nope I went throught weight wise in Edmonton. The GP one is really new. They dont do surgery here, you'll still have to go to Edmonton for that from what i understand. When the new hospital is built they will offer the surgery here (barring finding staff to staff it)...
you can do the RD, RN, Doc and psyc appts here but your surgeon and surgery will be in Edmonton. (this is all from what i understand...i never went through it here)
