Edmonton Weight Wise - Questions?
Hi everyone. I've been doing the weight wise program for a couple months now and I have my consult at the Royal Alex at the end of April.
My main question is how long did it take for you to get in for your surgery after you had your initial consult?
I would also love some information about your experiences if you care to share! About your weight loss, how your life has changed from it, etc.
Thanks!

I had my initial consult in August 2011. From there I attended various appointments with the dietician, the occupational therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, medical doctor..... I worked through the modules, made lifestyle changes such as religiously tracking food, water, steps ( from a pedometer)' and lost about 20 lbs with these changes. I originally went with an open mind, but really didn't plan to have surgery.
However, about a month or 2 ago, surgery was discussed. I worked through my concerns and issues, and decided that the sleeve was what I would get. I saw the surgeon twice at the clinic to discuss surgery, the risks, the benefits, and I finally made the decision to move forward.
I have a sleeve Gastrectomy on March 20, 2012, and have not looked back! The surgery itself gave me no issues. I spent 2 nights at the Royal Alex, and have been on full fluids since. I move to soft foods next week. The scale is also nicely moving! Pain was very minimal and I was off the Tylenol/ codeine after the fourth day.
I have some follow up appointments in the next two weeks, and I know the clinic follows you post surgery to make sure things are going well.

BJ, I am trying to decide on how long ( or how soon ) I can get back to work.
Surgery will be in late May according to the girl who schedules the surgery.
If you are 2 weeks out and only on soft food next week I am guessing you (or I) would be too weak to go back to work after three weeks? Even though I have a desk job I walk around a large hospital dept. all day.
Eeek sounds like not enough food to have normal energy levels?
How long do you think is realistic?

I 'm kinda a old timer when it comes to the clinic cause I had my surgery in September of 2010. I too went in to the clinic first wanting to know why I was over weight and what they could do to help me. It wasn't until about 6 months in when I I kinda started leaning towards surgery and researched for hours on end every night.
I had my sleeve surgery 14 months after joining the clinic and 4 months after being approved. I look back now and wondering where the past 17.5 months have gone. I'm down 114 pounds from my heaviest weight and I love the new me and new life I have.
You may get cross addictions which they talk about at the clinic and for me there not that bad. I'm obsessed with shopping cause I can fit into any clothes at any stores not just the plus size stores and the second one would be weighing. My scale is my best friend, can't go a day without stepping on it. I know I shouldn't be I can't help it.
The life style changes after surgery seem to come easier, it's almost as if while you care under having the surgery that you brain is being readjusted too, I know it shouldn't weird but that's how I felt. I woke up saying I had no regrets and life just seemed to get easier from that day forward.
Good Luck.
