Question after surgery when you wake up in the hospital do you have any tubes, drains or catheters in.  I am getting some anxiety so want to know what to expect. Thank you!

I am not sure, but think tubes, drains etc., are dependent on the surgeon.  If you have open RNY by Dr. Nohr, you will have a gastro-nasal tube (through the nose) & 2 drains at the very least.  To the best of my knowledge, a catheter is not used, thereby urging you to get up to the washroom!  You will also have an IV running with Saline & to administer antibiotics & pain meds!  Good luck & I hope I have answered some questions.

I had RNY surgery done laproscopically by Dr. Nohr in Medicine Hat last October.  I had no tubes/drains at all.  Nothing in the nose or the stomach.  I did have an IV.  No catheter either.  It probably depends on the person and how the surgery went.  I did get Heperin (blood thinner) shots in the belly 3 times a day and the occassional Gravol shot as well.  I did have these leg wraps on that would fill up with air and then the air would let out while I was lying in bed.  I think it's to combat blood clots.  Sort of annoying and hot, but bearable.  I was in the hospital a total of 4 days and a bit.
