Weight Wise Clinic Edmonton - questions.
RNY on 04/16/13
Hello all,
I have recently started my modules at the Royal Alex in Edmonton and have been refered to the Weight Wise clinic, my referral was accepted and now I am on the waiting list.
I was wondering if there are any steps I can take myself to help me while I wait for my first appointment.
Currently I wear a pedometer and I journal my food & moods (have been journaling for a year now). Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, I am curious in regards to the Weight Wise clinic... when you have your first visit what does that cover. I am interested in the RNY and am wondering if I will be doing Medifast? Basically any or all information will help me out.
Knowledge is power and when it comes to WLS and my life the more information the better :)
Thank you!!

You are already doing two important things they expect... Journalling and pedometer. Making the small, achievable changes in your lifestyle will help you as you choose to add the " tool" that weight loss surgery gives you. It's a "tool", not the "answer".
My first appointment was with the RN who goes over your weight history ( paperwork which they send you) and sets up further appointments with other professionals, such as dietician, psychologist, , occupational therapist, etc. From my first appointment to my surgery date was 6 months, but this varies tremendously. Everyone is different.
I was not required to fast or have any pre-op diet. It depends on the surgeon and your particular cir****tances. Good luck on this journey,!

I just recently had my first appointment,
I met with the RN who went over my medical history, weight history We did a weigh in and checked my blood pressure.
It took about an hour while we went over all the information in the paperwork. Depending on your answers they will set app various appointments with different professioals such as dietician, psychologist.
Good Luck to you.

i am from manitoba and going through the weight wise progam in edmonton. they are great about booking many apts together as best they can to save on trips to the clinic. i had my asessment in nov/11, and am having gastroscopy on mar 29/12, after that i go on a surgical wait list. im told to expect 4-6 weeks. i met with my nurse and dietitian every trip. i met with the psychologist once, the psychiatrist once, the occupational therapist twice, and the physiotherapist twice. also saw dr modi the internist a couple of times. she is amazing! i absolutly adore her! they all have to "approve" you to see the surgeon. there is a checklist that has to be filled out before you get to see the surgeon. i saw the surgeon in feb/12. i have to do a 2 week preop diet of ensure high protein. a colon cleanse the night before, i have to fast the night before then the whole day of surgery. not even a sip of water, then the day after surg they will recheck me for leaks then after that i can start to drink.
hope that helps,
good luck on your journey,

Hi Seeking_Freedom.... I am also from Winnipeg and looking into possibly traveling to Edmonton. Would it be possible to share your e-mail address so I can ask you some questions regarding your experience in relation to coverage (MB Health/Private, costs, how it works with the clinic visits prior)? It would help with my decision as I've ruled out lap-band at the Maples after doing my research on complications/long term effects and total weight loss (and the cost!). A friend was recently told a few weeks ago that the MB Health program's wait list for the VSG procedure is now somewhere between 1-2 years. That's way too long to wait! Thanks...! [email protected]
