Just wanting to know how soon you can resume swimming after gastric bypass?
I had surgery on Feb.8th and am hoping to go back to the pool as soon as possible.

You might want to check with your nurse or doctor, but I was told to wait until all of my incisions were completely healed.  Mine took about 2 months to fully heal and the scabs to fall off.  You don't want any chance of that icky water getting into your incisions and giving you an infection.

thanks for the info, I guess I better wait and see what the nurse says. I am just getting anxious to get back being physical, and I was thinking that would be the least impact on my body.

While you wait for swimming, walking (not running just light walking) is a great way to get moving and doesn't strain the abdomin so as soon as you have the energy for it you can start.  My surgeon suggests 15-20 minutes on the treadmill at a light pace starting at 2 weeks post op.

thanks for the reply. I think I am ready to start light exercise and I like your suggestion. I guess I thought swimming would be the least resistance, but need to get off my butt and start just walking again. I have to admit, I have loved the time off of work and just relaxin at home.
